Don't suppress results behind a paywall, just flag them with $. Can you at least do that? 1 Recommended Answer 6 Replies 1 Upvote

We know Google's business model depends on more clicks, but to make things a little more consumer-friendly just flag with a "$" any link that requires a paid subscription in order to view the content.  Until you get something that integrates with the user to indicate which sites he or she has subscriptions to so include those results only, this is better than nothing.

It was a suggestion for a specific action for Google to take, not publishers.  Sorry if I was misunderstood.

Pls read the whole article; Google will not take a stand on the issue; It leaves ist to the publisher's discretion.

Google better take a stand.  I'm looking for another search engine now.  I'm tired of clicking on links, seeing a glimpse of a page, and then asking me to subscribe.  A $ beside each result that requires it would be good.  They could at least tag the sites using this approach if they find it to difficult to get around their x number of fee pages before they ask for subscription.

I agreed. There should be an indicator in the headlines so we don't stupidly click into the link and found out you can't read it. It's horrible feeling to see pay message comes up after you successfully grab my attention with the headlines. For this reason only, I will never subscribe to Washington Post, new York times etc. It's such a click bait.

Google should make a stand.
