Nest Hub no audio until reboot
2
I've had my Nest Hub for more than a year. In the past few weeks it often won't output any audio, even with volume set to max, no matter the source. Even the UI sounds (volume up/down boops) don't work. It will start working again if I reboot it but sometimes it takes two or 3 reboots before it starts working properly. Unplugging power has the same effect as the reboot command. It seems like a software problem. I have already tried a factory reset.

I'm having the exact same problem.  i think it started with the software update in november/december.

google support hasn't been helpful so far.  they suggested i replace it, but i bought it from amazon and the seller and the listing no longer exist.

I guess we could always buy a smart plug to reboot it every day? :)

Hey Bjorn van Gool,

Thanks for bringing this up, and apologies for the delayed response. We also appreciate your efforts.

I know how it feels when you're having issues with your Google Nest Hub. Let's dig deeper into this - when did the issue start? Are you using the original power cord that comes with your device? Where is your Google Nest Hub plugged in? have you tried to plug in your device to a different power outlet? What is the firmware version of your device?

@Aaron Curtis 4826: We understand. Please note that we only replace a device bought from Google's authorized resellers. Feel free to answer the questions above so we can further investigate the issue.

I'll wait for your reply.

Cheers,
Muddi

Sure, I'd still like to see a fix for this memory leak.

Any chance a fix is coming in a future software update?

Hallo Muddi,

This problemen still occurs almost on a daily basis. It startet in january. I use the original powercord and tried different power outlets. The device is running firmware 241809. I suspect a firmware update startet this problem. Still the only solution is unplugging the device.

Cheers,

Bjorn

Just wanted to add that I suffered from this as well, started out of nowhere (so it seemed at least)... It worked for about a day (sometimes 2) and then the same issue... no audio. It displayed all responses on the display as if it was working, but nothing could be heard.

Only solution was restarting, but because I use it as my alarmclock too... that was not a solution for me.

I tried different outlets/locations
Changing the router
Resetting the hub and setting everything up again
Development vs stable firmware

All without luck, in the end I bought a new one which is working since then (and somehow also the old one suddenly seemed to work again, but I still don't quite trust it and haven't used it in a while now)

The problem has started for me a few days ago. Very inconvenient, since I use it for my alarm clock. Before I go to sleep the audio works, I play the news. In the morning no audio.

Mine is doing the same. Started last month. If I unplug it and replug it in it will work for a few days and then the problem comes back. It is frustrating because I'll set a timer on it and not realize the problem is back until I notice my timer hasn't gone off. I will then look at my hub and see that the timer has gone off but no sound comes out. We've only had this hub a little over a year and really don't want to have to buy a new one already.

I've been having the exact same issue.  Started last week for me.  NO SOUND but volume button shows there is sound.  I unplug and plug in.  It restarts, and the sound works again.  Goes out by the next morning.  How do I know?  I use my google hub as my alarm clock.  PLEASE SUGGEST A FIX.

Confirming the GHT3 Nest display no sound problem.   I have six displays.  All work fine, except for ONE of the two I purchased in November.  I tried resetting.  I have to reboot daily to have any sound.

I have the exact same problem daily. No changes on my end - has sat in the same spot for well over one year with no issues. My System firmware and cast firmware are exactly the same as listed above in this thread:

241809 and 1.52.241809

I should also mention that the issue seems to occur first thing in the morning/day following whatever hibernation mode takes place at night. The device works fine throughout the day, but once it sleeps at night and I try to use it first thing in the morning - it requires a reboot to get the sound back.

Frustrating to say the least...

I have the same problem. I didn't note the actual date it started, but it has been going on for a while. Yes, I am using the original plug. I didn't change anything on the device. The device SW version is 1.52.241809
It is now just a glorified clock. I cannot use it as an alarm for the morning since it doesn't make sound.
I know the device is running the routines because I can see the display change for weather, calendar and news, but no sound. I have checked the volume and reset the device. No luck.

I'm having the same problem my firmware is version is 241809 I've had this problem since January. Not buying a new one it is only over a year old I unplug it and it works for a few days, if I need to replace it I will be buying a different brand. As it is now just an expensive photo frame.

I also have this issue and now have to reboot every morning. Double checked sound, ok before bed and then gone in the morning. Firmware  241809 as above with others. I did purchase from a retailer but would like to know if there is any solution. I have a second device same firmware yet working fine...!!! Ante ideas?

Same issue here.  Just sent feedback via the app as instructed.

Cast firmware version 1.52.241809

The audio seems to work for a while and then just doesn't.  Will work after reboot but will stop again.  Quite annoying considering I have two brand new, unopened Hubs ready to give as gifts I'm considering returning now...

I am also experiencing this issue practically daily for at least the last several weeks. Reboot resolves temporarily. Original power cord, etc.

I am returning mine tomorrow, I bought it as a gift for my mother and she had no idea it wasn't normal to have to unplug and re-plug everyday.  Brand new, out of the box.  I can't believe they don't have a fix yet.
