Hey everyone,

A few of you may have received an email about an issue with some Nest Detects or Nest Yale x Locks. You’d only be affected if you were part of the preview program (an early access to new software and features program) on your Google Nest Hub Max.

Your Nest Hub Max is designed to connect certain smart home devices to your Wi-Fi network. However, due to an issue in the latest preview program update we rolled out, if your Nest x Yale Lock or Nest Detect is using your Nest Hub Max for Wi-Fi connectivity,  those devices may not be able to connect to the internet.

How to check if you’re affected:
  • To see if you are affected, you can check if devices have been offline by tapping on History from the Nest Guard or Nest x Yale Lock device view in the Nest App.
  • Please check the software version of the Nest Hub Max device that is closest to the offline Nest Detect or Nest x Yale lock to determine if your device is on 1.52.237743 or 1.52.23895 firmware version.
  • If this version doesn’t apply to you but you’re still having issues we recommend performing connectivity troubleshooting for Nest Detect devices or Nest x Yale lock devices

If you’re part of the impacted group, this is how your devices could be affected:
  • If you have a Nest x Yale Lock, you will be able to lock or unlock it using a code on the device keypad. However, you may not be able to lock or unlock it using the Nest or Home apps, and if you have created temporary guest codes, they may also stop working.
  • Any Nest Detects in your home will continue to function properly as open/close sensors and motion sensors. However, they may appear as offline in your Nest app.

How to resolve this issue if your device is one of the listed firmware versions:
  1. Open the Google Home app
  2. Select your Nest Hub Max from the devices list
  3. Tap the Settings gear at the top
  4. Tap Device Information
  5. Tap Preview Program
  6. Tap Leave Program
  7. Your device will receive a software update within 24 hours that resolves the issue. Alternatively, please unplug the device and plug it back in to trigger the software update manually.

We appreciate you taking the time to try these steps and if you’re still having issues, please contact support for additional help.

Thanks,
Rachel
