Hi Charlie,
You can not use voice commands to turn off a Google Home speaker or Google Nest Display they will need unplugging from the power supply as they are designed to be always on.

I am having this same problem. This command has worked for over a year, but yesterday I got the message that power control is not supported? How can this be corrected?

As mentioned above a Google Home device is designed to be always on so doesn't support power controls. If it's a media stream you want to stop then say "Hey Google, stop" or "Hey Google, quit".
