I just installed a Nest WiFi

I am in a rural area and have cellular internet. I have a Cradlepoint AER1600 combination cellular modem and router with 2G and 5G. I can stream HD video and my kids can PC online game. I get perfectly adequate internet speed. I have a whole house hub in the basement and I have one of the etherbet outs from the 1600 connected to the hub and then to a gaming PC and other points. My PC and my wife's laptop are coneccted to 2 of the other Ethernet outlets in the modem router.

Areas of my house had bad signals so I added an AmpliFi HD WiFi MeshPoint which amplifies the signal without creating a new network so there isn't switching as you move around the house. My half light basement and the loft where my kids still didn't get great signals. Just before I got the Google Mesh I took a probably 10 year old Netgear N150 router and used it on the wired connection from the hub to add a local WiFi in my boys room.

But now with Zoom school I thought I would add a mesh system for an integrated whole house WiFi system. The kid's school Chromebooks use WiFi as well as our phones and iPads, etc.

I have 4 2nd generation Google Mesh routers (no WiFi Points but Google tech said it was exactly the same with 1 router and 3 points or 4 routers as I have).

It is agonizingly slow. I plugged the first Google Mesh router into one of the modem router Ethernet outputs. My wife's and my computer are still coneccted directly to the AER1600. I removed the hub cable from the 1600 router and put it into the first Google Mesh router. I still have the AER 1600 WiFi broadcasting.

Since the Google was installed everything is slower. The WiFi is much slower than the AER1600 with the plug in mesh. The wired connections are all slower including the ones still plugged directly into the AER1600. There is a Google Mesh router in my boys room and it is slower than the old AER16002G or even the 3rd WiFi network I set up in their room with the old Netgear.

So now I have 3 WiFi networks and even though the Google Mesh has slowed them all the old ones are still faster than the Google Mesh.

So why is everything so much slower and is there anyway to make things fast or am I going to eat 4 Google Mesh routers and go back to my old WiFi network?

Hi. I have the same problem as yours, my google nest WiFi is slow, yes it increases the range, but damn it’s too slow, now I’m experiencing lags, I thought google best, would not only make my WiFi range extender even further and also was hoping it’ll be as fast as my modem router from cox, but it’s super slow, and makes us all lag,

Yes it has even slowed the wired connections directly plugged into the modem. I wonder if there is something in the modem configuration that should. There are hundreds of different things you can set and configure when you log onto the modem. I know some of the settings but there are probably 100 that I have no clue whether they would help or hinder the Google Mesh.
