Issues playing to speaker group with bluetooth output 0 Recommended Answers 5 Replies 6 Upvotes

I'm attempting to use a speaker group which, incidentally, seems to be a bit of a flakey feature in general, in the sense that the group I've created sometimes shows-up in the Home app and sometimes does not. But that's another issue.

The issue I want to address is the fact that media from Google Play does not play on both the speakers I have in my group, which is thus:

1) A Google Home Hub, with default output to a pair of bluetooth powered speakers.
2) A Google Home Mini

If I try to cast to the speaker group, i get play from the Mini, but the speakers associated with the Home Hub just output a sort of very faint static -- like the Hub is attempting to play (maybe? or something?) but won't.

If I cast independently to the Hub, all is fine.

My WiFi is strong throughout the house -- a three-unit mesh setup with Google WiFi units. Bluetooth signal, too, is not an issue at all.

Hi there,
A Google Home or Google Nest device can only communicate with one Bluetooth speaker at a time due to the limitations of the Bluetooth protocol used.
If you want to cast over a speaker group then please use the Google Cast protocol, information about this can be found from the link below.

I experienced this same issue today. Initially all was well. I have a group with the following setup....

Group Name: Homeslice
Device 1: Audio Chromecast plugged into a standard speaker via Aux cable
Device 2: Google Home
Device 3: Google Mini (with Harmon Kardon Studio 4 set as the default bluetooth speaker)

Initially it all worked fine and was an amazing experience that was just as I expected. The sync delay was sometimes inconsistent requiring me to tweak it in the devices settings from time to time for different songs.

Then all of a sudden the Device 3 stopped playing correctly through the bluetooth (but only when playing within the group). I can hear the faint buzzy, rhythmic thump describe by the previous user.

Solo outside the group, with the bluetooth speaker connected and/or without it, the music plays normally to the Device 3 configuration (above). It has to be some bug or configuration issue because it worked and then stopped with no change on my end. I've been tinkering with everything, plugs, repairing, restarting wifi, setting up static IP addresses, etc...and haven't been able to get it to work properly again.

Micheal I don't know if you ever got a solution for this. I tried everything under the sun, but factory resetting the casting device (google mini in my case) was the only thing that fixed it for me.

@cathal - How can you say that?

I have 3 google home minis and all are connected to their respective bluetooth speakers.
I have used them as Home group or some other groups and they have worked fine with some issues with the delay.

Now they have stopped working as a group and only one of the bluetooth speaker work and rest have a clicking sound.

There used to be an issue with the music where sound used to get cut very often and google fixed it like after like 10 months.
This is just new BS.

Please if anyone finds a solution, post it here..
