Google Nest Wifi Mesh AC2200 can't access wifi printer from my local network 0 Recommended Answers 0 Relevant Answers 6 Replies 2 Upvotes

I have a 3-piece Nest mesh setup. I have this connected to my LAN which has many wired devices such as a Sonos system, computer, Tivos, etc.  Predictably I have problems accessing devices that are on the wifi network from devices that are on my wired LAN. Getting rid of my router is not an option - I have a Zyxel ZyWall 110 router which is a pretty capable router. There is probably a way to bridge the wifi and the LAN at the ZyWall but I can't quite get my head around how to do it. Maybe hooking one of the mesh units up to an alternate port on the Zywall and routing traffic bound for the mesh's subnet through it?

I have to say, the fact that you can't disable the NATing on these Nest units when meshing SUCKS.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community.

Thank you for posting your concern here. I understand that allowing the Nest Wifi devices to still mesh while set to bridged is something that you would like to have as an option, however this isn't supported just yet. We recommend to keep sending your feedback through the app and let our product team be aware about the things you guys are looking for in a network. Also about your issue, can you help me describe how does your current network structure looks like to better assist you? (e.g. Modem -> Nest Wifi router -> Switch -> PC ).

Let me know to further assist you on this. Thanks!

All the best,
Nhest

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the information and I'm so sorry for the delayed response. For your case, if removing the ZyWall Router into the equation isn't an option right now, then you can just connect your Nest Wifi router directly to it and have the 'switch' connected to your Nest Wifi router's LAN port. In that way, your wired devices will be on the same network as your wireless devices. (Modem -> ZyWall Router -> Nest Wifi router -> Switch -> Wired Devices ). However, making this change would still leave the devices connected on the Nest Wifi network being behind 'double NAT', which isn't necessarily a problem but sometimes can cause issues on a network like slow speed, re-directing DNS, firewall blocking ports, improper port forwarding and others. In your case, one good way to eliminate the double NAT in the network is to have the ZyWall Router set to bridge. If you're not sure how to do it, you can try contacting Zyxel Support for better assistance.

Hope this helps.

All the best,
Nhest

Unfortunately bridging the ZyWall is not an option as I have IPSec hardware VPNs connecting to the ZyWall and the LAN configuration needs to stay as-is. If I were to disconnect the WAN connection on the Nest and plug the Nest's LAN jack into my ZyWall's LAN1, is there a way to disable DHCP on the Nest so that my ZyWall could handle DHCP requests on the Wifi LAN? Or would the Nest just become unmanageable because it is expecting traffic through its WAN interface?

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the heads up. Currently, the only way to disable DHCP on the Nest Wifi router is to set it to bridged mode. However by doing so, it would lead your Nest Wifi router to lose its mesh feature and some of its functionality.
