Windows mesh node "No internet" message 0 Recommended Answers 9 Replies 2 Upvotes

I have a Google Nest wifi network with the base station and 1 mesh node.

The internet connection via the base station works great but whenever I try to connect via the mesh node I get the dreaded "No internet" message next to my wifi connection.

Weird thing is, only my Windows machine seems to have issues connecting via the mesh node. My iOS devices are able to connect just fine via the node.

Couple of checks I already did:
  • The node has a good connection according to the mesh test
  • The node has internet connectivity, Google assistant also works
  • I tried a factory rest on the node, no luck

Who can help me out?

How far is your computer from the nearest Mesh node? Is your Windows machine a PC or laptop, what type of WiFi adapter does it have? Have you tried a different adapter at all?

Hi Sandie,

The Mesh node literally sits next to my laptop. The laptop is an HP EliteBook X360 1040 G6 with an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160mhz network adapter.

Niels, are your Nest WiFi and laptop both manufactured for use in the same region? Which region are you based in?

Hi Sandie, I am based in The Netherlands. The laptop and Nest WiFi are both intended for use in The Netherlands.

Hi folks,

->@Sandie, Thank you for the assistance.

->@NielsS, Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community. Just to verify, does this issue also happens when you have the laptop connected on the network with the Nest Wifi point being disconnected or unplugged from the power? Also, do you mind answering these few questions to better assist you on this?
  1. Has this device ever been able to connect and had work just fine on this network before?
  2. Have you tried connecting the device on a different network or through a mobile WiFi hotspot to see if the same issue happens?
  3. Also aside from resetting your Nest Wifi point, do you mind telling what are the other things you tried doing so far?
Let me know so that we can possibly see where can be the issue might be really coming from.

All the best,
Nhest

Hi Nhest,

As indicated in my first post, the laptop connects fine to any other WiFi network, including through the base unit. It's just the nest WiFi point which it is having issues with.

I have tried assigning the same IP handed out by the base station as a fixed IP address for the laptop but that did not do anything.

Thank you both for looking into this, your help and ideas are highly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Niels

Hi NielsS,

Thanks for the information. I agree that this issue must be a little weird, especially if the device that seems to be only affected was your laptop. You might already gone through with these few things I have listed but I would appreciate if you can check them out and see if they might be helpful for you.
  1. Power the device off, wait for 30 sec before you can turn it back on then try to connect to the network, proceed to the next step if that didn’t work.
  2. Disable and re-enable Wi-Fi on the device. Also, disable Bluetooth, if possible.
  3. Forget and rejoin to Wifi’s network on the device.
  4. If it's still didn’t work, perform a full network restart, this would allow all Wifi points and the devices connected to re-establish connections.
  • Disconnect the power cable and Ethernet cable from the Nest Wifi router.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the Nest Wifi point.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the modem.
  • Allow the power to stay disconnected from all for 5 minutes.
  • Connect the power back to the modem only and wait for it to fully boot back up.
  • All lights should be lit up before moving to the next step.
  • After the modem is back online, connect the Ethernet cable to back to Nest Wifi router's WAN port (globe symbol port).
  • Connect the power back to the Nest Wifi router/Nest Wifi point.
  • Allow the entire network to be fully back on.
If the same issue persist, check out these additional steps.

Just to isolate the issue, try changing your Wifi network name/SSID and password and avoid using special characters or spaces. Some other wireless devices are not able to read or do not support special characters, in which can cause an issue with the device connectivity on the network.

Here's how you can change it.
  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wifi Settings .
  3. Enter a new network name and password
  4. Tap Save.
Also, if you're using a modem+router combo device connected to your Google Nest Wifi router, then it would have it's own security/firewall settings that is more likely conflicting with the Google Nest Wifi network. Try doing these if possible.
  • Turn any security/firewall settings down/off on the modem/router device.
  • Set a DMZ on the modem/router device.
  • If possible, 'bridge' the modem/router device.
  • Disable the firewall and wireless of the modem/router device.
If you’re unsure how to do it, you can either contact the router manufacturer or ISP for assistance.

Hope this helps.

All the best,
Nhest
