I am trying to connect my phone number to be able to place calls using my Home Mini. I get the text with the verification code, but when I put it in it says “Something went wrong. Try again.” I’ve tried multiple times. What now

Doesn't matter if I'm on WiFi or the AT&T network.

I have had an online chat with Google support and they couldn't resolve it.  They got me to check all my settings in Home app on iPhone and my Google account and all the relevant ones were turned on.  They have now escalated the issue and say that someone from Google will call me but were unable to say when they would call...

I have also reported this to the Google Home team.
Please can you recreate the problem and immediately afterwards leave feedback for the Google Home team within the Google Home app and check the box for including screenshot and log files.

Exact same problem.  Have tried it with 2 Google Home Minis and 1 Google Home.  "Something Went Wrong.  Try Again."  At least I'm not alone.

This must be a known issue for Google as there are a number of us experiencing the issue.  However, Google support do not seem to recognise the issue.  I have received an email from Google support asking me to send feedback from the Home app...  There is nothing new to add to what the original poster put in with their screenshots...

Try to add mobile number.
Receive the SMS from Google
Enter the code from the SMS and press VERIFY
A message  in white text on a black background scrolls up saying "Something went wrong. Try again."

Wait 30 seconds. Request a new code. REPEAT.... infinitum.

I have factory reset my device. Removed it from my account and re-added it. No difference.

Please help Google.  Mobile calling was one of the main reasons I purchased my Google Mini and with the number of junk calls made in the UK no one will answer a phone call with a hidden number so without being able to send my own number the service is useless to me.  This is my first Google smart device and not impressed so far...

Having the same issue in Vancouver Canada. The code is sent and when I punch in the code it says “Something went wrong. Try again” repeated few times. No luck to add my number still defaults to Unlisted.

Also having the same issue from Texas. I’ve tried entering the useless code over 20 times (under exaggeration) and no dice every time. All the personal setttings is also on so idk what’s going on please fix

I’m also experiencing this problem. I have tried every day over the course of a week to link my mobile phone number, each time receiving the same error “Something went wrong. Please try again later” after entering the security code that is texted to me.

Hi Everyone,

I had exactly the same issue but finally succeed in linking my phone number today. 

What devices are you guys using for linking your phone number? I was using google home app on iPhone and spent lot of time to make it work to no avail. Also tried using two other phones (both iPhone) as suggested by Google Home team to try it on different device but they didn't work as well.

Luckily got my hands on Android phone today and out of frustration I tried using it and it worked straightaway on first attempt. I tried using my iPhone again to change number in order to know if the problem still persists and guess what...... still got the same message "Something went wrong. Try again".

I think this problem is only with iOS devices. Anyway I'm glad, I got it working and hopes Google fixes it soon.

Are you using the Google app (not Google Home) in beta? This was an issue when UK users first had access to the voice calling feature and coming out of the beta program cured it.

Is this an iPhone user issue? My bf just verified with his Android phone with his Google Home no problem. I reside in Vancouver BC still getting same issue. Already have my phone number attached to my personal info.

Hi I am using google home and have google assist apps. I called in and spoke to a tech who advised me that they are working on the issue as there have been a few uk people with the same issue.

I am using Google Home app on iPhone and iPad. Both with latest iOS installed. My phone number is in my Goggle account. 

Incidentally, I can’t get my Home mini to read out the news headlines either even though it is all set up in my Home app. Is this a related issue?

I LOVE how everyone says "MY mobile phone number"  I don't recall sharing it with anyone.

Those of who who think Google MUST" do something"....when you are clearly breaking the law and trying to call them out on it should really be ashamed.   You were warned on Google at least three times about using someone else's account.
