Hi Dane,

Typically you assign lights to a room. When you do this, you can do things like:

Turn on the living room lights.
Turn on the living room ceiling light.

To create a room, select one of the devices and you'll see an option Add To Room which would allow you to add the device to an existing room, or create another one.

What's really cool with rooms too, is if you add your Home device to the same room, you can omit your room name in your speech, so you can do the following:

Turn on the lights.
Turn on the ceiling light.

In both of these instances, it would turn on the relevant lights in the living room if the Home device was also in the living room group.

Hope this helps,

The problem I have is I need them in individual rooms as well as a combined group but that doesn't seem to be possible  as it is on another unnamed system. Am I missing something?

Hi Christopher,

As it sits right now you can't have lights in multiple groups (or rooms). What you should do is provide Google with feedback which does go to the product management team for review.

In the meantime, what lights are you using? The reason I ask is that you might be able to make use of services like IFTTT or Stringify to do this. I'm not saying you will be able to, but its worth exploring at least until Google allow devices in multiple groups.

Given the growing use of home automation, I can't imagine such a feature is far away.

I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for but I hope it helps.
