PS4 frequent "Network Connection Has Been Lost" 3 Recommended Answers 33 Replies 119 Upvotes

My PS4 frequently disconnects from Playstation Network with a black screen error message "Network Connection Has Been Lost". This happens at least every hour. To get back online I simply have to run PS4->Settings->Test Network.

I do not know if the issue is caused by Google Wifi or the PS4 system version 7.02, but it has been going on for 2-3 months. Before then, no issues whatsoever.

My network has two Google Wifi units, connected by wire. No issues with any other devices.

I found that the issue appears to be caused by Google Wifi, or an incompatibility problem between the PS4 and Google Wifi.
1) I disconnected one hub to force the PS4 to always connect to one hub. Issue this happens.
2) Then I moved one hub next to the PS4 and connected it via wire to the PS. Issue resolved.
Perhaps it happens when the PS4 decides to switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz, but that's just wild speculation. Sadly, something is broken. I have tried to different PS4 systems, and both have the same problem with Google Wifi.

EDIT: In PS4 Internet Setup, if one presses the Option button while selecting which SSID to connect to, it is possible to choose which band to use, 5GHz only, 2.4GHz only or Auto. Default is Auto. I have now set it to use 5GHz only. I have great hopes this will resolve the problem.
EDIT2: well, that didn't help at all either. So frustrating.

I’m having this same problem, very frustrating. This problem didn’t happen until I got google nest Wifi last week because my original router is too weak. My internet is wayyyy faster now and updates for my PS4 go way faster also, but now I can’t keep it connected. Let me know what you figure out

We connected the PS4 to the Guest network as the only device on that network.  Seems to have resolved the problem

Did anyone find a Solid solution?

Log in to your router and check the local log that corresponds to your PS4 console's IP address and see if it indicates "IP Fragmented Packet". If the log indicates this, disable the "Block Fragmented Packets" in your firewall configuration settings. Unfortunately, if you do this you're network is vulnerable to DoS attacks. To minimize IP Fragmented Packet:

* Use a wired connection instead of a WiFi connection.
* Enable the Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) quality of service (QoS) parameters.
* Configure your PS4 with a reserve static IP address.
* Use Google Public DNS IP addresses (Primary: 8.8.8.8 and Secondary: 8.8.4.4).
