Google nest Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. 5 Recommended Answers 77 Replies 120 Upvotes

My Google nest has never had an issue until recently. Last week on Wednesday the Wi-Fi started going in and out. The internet remained working but the Wi-Fi would go in and out. I called Spectrum they said something was wrong with the modem and yesterday they said they fixed it. They are now claiming that it is Google that is the issue. Spectrum said that I'm probably on a channel that a lot of people are on and that's the issue. I spoke to someone from Google yesterday and they troubleshooted the issue. The internet has still been calling on and off and I don't know what to do. I have already unplugged the modem and the router and then plug the modem waiting for the internet to work and plugged in the router. I have reset the priorities and my modem is a modem alone. I need help.

Hi Teyana,

Welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community!

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this issue you're having. I'm so sorry for the late response and I understand that having a Wifi connection that keeps cutting in and out is a little inconvenient. Are you still having this the same issue? If yes, then allow to see how we can help you out on this. To start, let me ask you these few questions to better isolate if where the problem might be coming from.
  • Have you tried connecting a computer directly to the modem using an Ethernet cable to see if its getting a stable Internet connection?
  • Can you tell me what's your network structure looks like?(e.g. Modem --> Switch --> Google Nest Wifi router --> other devices).
  • Do you have an additional Wifi points connected on the network? If yes, how far are they from each other or from the main Google Nest Wifi router?
  • Are there any other devices near your Google Nest Wifi devices such as Microwave, Cordless Phone, Wireless speakers, Bluetooth devices etc?
  • Also, do you mind telling what are the steps you tried doing so far?
Let me know so that we can further assist you on this.

All the best,
Nhest

I have the same issue, I'm connected to the Arris Xb6 and I have 2 Google nest wifis in the house connected so the range is not an issue, yet the signal keeps dropping a few times everyday, I checked with Rogers in Canada about what could be an issue and they came and checked the cables all the way to the house, and the internet nodes. Everything is good on their end but Nest WiFi keeps going offline multiple times in the day, the old WiFi had no issues. My television is linked to the modem so it drops too. I reset the connection by unplugging and waiting 5 min, I've factory reset the whole thing too. It shows great on nest mesh. I've also closed the WiFi on the modem so there's no interference but to no avail. There is a serious issue with the nest WiFi that needs an update or an overhaul. Again I'd like to highlight that the previous network I was on was the Google WiFi and it worked perfectly, albeit the range is better on this one.

Hi Sarhan,

Welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community!

Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to know that you are experiencing this type of issue. Let's try to further isolate if where can be the issue might be really coming from. Did the ISP check if the modem is getting a stable internet connection? I just wanted to double check on that since you mentioned that you have your television linked to the modem in which the connection drops too. Can you wired a computer directly to the modem and see if its getting stable internet connection? Also, since you're using a modem/router combo, its possible that the router/firewall/security features built in to it may have causing a restriction reason for your Google Nest Wifi network to have unstable connection. Try doing any of these, and see if this would help.
  1. Turn any security/firewall settings down/off on the modem+router device.
  2. Set a DMZ on the modem+router device.
  3. If possible, bridge the modem+router device.
Also, just a few additional questions.
  • Have you noticed if the light status on your Nest Wifi router changes during the disconnection or is it possible that the connection droppings happen due to the device rebooting on its own?
  • How often does the disconnection happens?  Does this issue occurs during a particular type of internet use? (Example: Video calling, music streaming, or gaming.)
  • How does your network structure looks like? (Modem --> Nest Wifi router --> Switch --> Wifi point)
Let me know so that we can further assist you on this.

All the best,

Hi,

I have my firewall on Ipv4 at Min security for wan to Lan and none for Lan to Wan, and at typical for ipv6, the fact is it happens multiple times a day and when I check the Google home page it shows a couple of points as being offline. They said that the internet signal is alright and at green. The nodal traffic is higher for obvious reasons. I do not know why it happens as sometimes it happens in the night as well, we are running a 1 GB/s internet. My connection is router to nest WiFi router and from that to the wireless points.

I'm slightly confused at which might be the best thing to do, what do u recommend among them. Will any of them help in this case.

I have this issue on a very brand new router. My old router was slower but at least stayed up. Does Google offer refunds?
