Ambient IQ: How Google Nest speakers work 0 Recommended Answers 5 Replies 41 Upvotes

Hey Google Nest Community,

It’s the little things in life we appreciate the most, like when the barista spells your name correctly, or when you receive extra fries with your fast food order. We can’t give you extra fries, but we can provide you with a more helpful home.

When we introduced the latest additions to the Nest family last fall, we not only redesigned the Nest speakers with better sound and more bass, we included a new feature called Ambient IQ. It's a small but powerful feature designed to solve a daily problem in busy, noisy households.

What is Ambient IQ?
Ambient IQ enhances the sound of podcasts, audiobooks and other spoken media by continuously adapting to your environment. It makes key frequencies louder or softer depending on background noise, so that what you're listening to is always clear and audible. It’s like having a personal genie change the volume and EQ for you.

While listening to spoken content, it can be frustrating to constantly change the volume due to loud background noise. Ambient IQ dynamically tunes your favorite podcast or audiobook while you vacuum the living room or blow dry your hair.

Ambient IQ works on the Nest Mini, Nest Wifi, Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max and all its work is done on your device itself, without needing to send additional data to the cloud.

Wait, what about music?
For now Ambient IQ doesn’t work while music plays. We opted to not apply this feature to music for a couple of reasons. Music can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, from blasting your favorite songs around the house to a soothing background for a nap, you have full control over your music volume. You wouldn't want the music to get louder when your conversation heats up at a dinner party, but when listening to spoken media like podcasts and news, you want to understand the words, no matter what noise is happening.

Try it!
  1. Just say, “Hey Google, turn on the news”
  2. Set the volume to an ideal listening level
  3. Turn on a fan or hairdryer to make some noise
  4. Listen to the volume get louder

Making a better smart home
This feature is bold enough to notice the volume improvements, but subtle enough so you don’t need to manage the settings. Ambient IQ improves intelligibility of speech in media and Google Assistant - Yes, even the Google Assistant responses use Ambient IQ. Hearing speech clearly above loud noise can be difficult, so we created a way to keep background noise in the background.

Did you try it out? Leave a comment and let us know your favorite podcasts to listen to.

Very unfortunate that this is only available on the new nest devices and the old devices are left out :-(

I also agree.  My house is overfilled with original Google Homes and Minis.  I have two newer devices, but the test are originals.

Google Home Actions are the manner by which Google Assistant can collaborate with existing applications. These are what might be compared to Alexa's Skills and can make it progressively helpful with regards to reference, profitability and completing things voice controls. The best part is that Home learns them naturally so you don't have to set them up. To perceive what you can do go to the Google Home application on your telephone.

Google Home gadgets aren't recording constantly, just when they hear the wake words "alright Google" or "Hello Google", with a couple of second scraps that are spared when this is identified. The mistake rate for this isn't great, however, so after you've utilized it some time you will discover some non-applicable discussions in your history.
