Can't rename Wifi point? 0 Recommended Answers 3 Replies 1 Upvote

The Google Home app and the Google Wifi app don't seem to show the same info. I set the name of my second Wifi point to "Master bedroom Wifi", which shows up correctly in the Home app. I can alter the name of the point in the app as well. However, the Google Wifi app shows this point as "Other" although it knows which room it's in. Why isn't this info propagating correctly?

Hi Jeremy,

Welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community!

Thanks for posting! I apologize for the late response and sorry to know that you're having a little confusion about the information showing on the app. Let's go ahead see what's going on, would you mind providing us a screenshot on what's showing on the Google Home app  vs. the one showing on the Google Wifi app ?

Looking forward for your response to better assist you, thanks a lot!

Hi Taha,

Welcome to the Google Nest Wifi Help Community!

Thanks for reaching out, I also want to apologize for responding a little late on you. For your case, are you having a hard time changing your Wifi password? Are you getting any error messages when attempting to change it? If yes, then the app might having issues communicating with Google Cloud Services reason why it's having issues updating some information. Typically, doing a full network restart will allow the network to communicate with Cloud Services properly.

Here's how to do a full network restart.
  • Disconnect the power cable and Ethernet cable from the main Wifi point.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the modem.
  • Allow the power to stay disconnected from both for 5 minutes.
  • Connect the power back to the modem only and wait for it to fully boot back up.
  • All lights should be lit up before moving to the next step.
  • After the modem is back online, connect the Ethernet cable to main Wifi point's WAN port.
  • Connect the power back to the main Wifi point.
  • Allow the main Wifi point to be fully back on.

Once done, kindly check out these few things below on how you can change your Wifi password.

If you're using Google Wifi devices and is using Google Wifi app
  1. Open the Google Wifi app.
  2. Tap Settings and actions tab , then Network & general.
  3. Under the "Network" section, tap your network name.
  4. Tap Edit .
  5. Enter a new network name or a new password.
  6. When you’re done, tap Save.
If you're only using Google Nest Wifi devices or both and is using Google Home app
  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Wifi Settings .
  3. Enter a new network name and password
  4. Tap Save

Hope this helps.

All the best,
Nhest
