Nest Mini constantly unlinking from Google Home account - "Please login through the Google Home app"
2
One of our Nest Minis keeps unlinking from my Google account. Every day, sometimes multiple times per day, we (myself and the other person in my Google Home) get a notification saying one of us has unlinked the Nest Mini from our account, but neither of us did.

"xxx@gmail.com unlinked Living Room speaker from your home"

Once that happens, the only response the Mini will give is "Please login through the Google Home app"

We'll re-link the Mini to our account through the Google Home app, but within 12-24 hours it will automatically unlink itself again.

We have already...

- Rebooted the Mini
- Rebooted our WiFi
- Factory reset the Mini
- Factory reset every Mini/Chromecast in our house
- Completely deleted our entire Google Home and set it up from scratch

...but it is still unlinking itself. We have two other Nest Minis in the house and they work perfectly. Only this one in our Living Room is having this issue.

To add, we have both confirmed our Google accounts and WiFi are secured. There are no unknown devices or logins in either of our Google Accounts, and no unknown devices on our WiFi.

I was concerned maybe someone else was removing the device, until I read other reports of this same thing happening to other users on Reddit.

Yup, same deal here. My Google account unlinks the Nest Mini from my home every day since I set it up. It usually happens between 12pm and 1pm EST. I'm not sure if it's because I leave the house or move too far away from it or what.

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for bringing this up. I know how important it is to use your Google Nest Mini. A few questions:
  • When was the issue started?
  • How far is your Google Nest Mini on your network?
  • Are all your Google Home devices at home having the same issue?
The recommended distance between your Google Home device and router is within 15-20 ft. away to make sure that your device is getting enough signal from your network. I also suggest connecting your Google Home to a different network like a mobile hotspot. You can also try to switch networks from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz connection if you are using a dual-band router, this will help us isolate the network issue.

To help us investigate the issue, please send feedback using the Google Home app by following the steps on this link. Please use the keywords "[Type of device] Unlink Itself" - make sure to specify your device type if it's the Google Mini or Nest Mini.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers!

I started noticed the behavior on Dec 27th. Granted I only installed the device Dec 23rd and it's one of the minis we use the least so it's very likely it has always done it and we just didn't use it until Dec 27th (I got this as part of the free Google nest mini giveaway).

I also have Google WiFi, and the mini is right next to a node so it's not a matter of wifi signal. At first I would get notifications that my husband's account was doing the unlinking, so we deleted his account from our home account, and now it says it's my account doing the unlinking. I have had 6 Google minis (three first gen, three second gen) and this is the only one that does it, which makes me think it's a faulty device over software issue. Another interesting observation is, the 48hr history screen shows the unlink event but if I look at the history nothing shows up...

Muddi,

Thanks for replying, but I don’t believe this is a network issue. This appears to be a service-side issue on Google’s end as this is suddenly impacting many Nest Mini owners.

But to answer your questions...

- This started happening to us on December 26th.
- It is only a few feet away from our WiFi router.
- It is only happening to one Mini. Our other Nest Minis, which are further away from our WiFi, are fine.

To clarify, it is not disconnecting from the network. It is still connected to WiFi and I can still interact with it in the Google Home app, but it becomes unlinked from our Google Account (it signs out).

Thanks

It is not a network issue. For one thing... you get completely different symptoms. It does not unlink and it doesn't tell you to log in. I just tested it.

My issue started as soon as I set up my new mini (Dec 26).
marked this as an answer
Relevant Answer
Started December 25th - the day after it was first setup.
Its ~10ft from wifi access point (same room).
Only impacting the new mini. we have one other (prior model) thats now 2 rooms away, and hasn't missed a beat for 8 months.

Its not losing connectivity, as its happy to answer generic requests, but if you need anything related to your account, it asks to be re-setup via the app.

I am having the same issue with my new Google Nest Mini. Set up on 27th Dec 2019, 'unlinked' from home multiple times per day, so pretty much unusable. I have to go through setup again every time it unlinks. I have tried connecting it to 2 different routers ( one is 1 metre away, the other is about 10 metres away), on both 2ghz and 5ghz on both routers and the issue persists. I also have a Google Home Mini (1st Gen) and that doesn't have the issue (15 metres from router), works no matter what network it is on and has never unlinked or disconnected. For this reason I think it's specific to Nest Mini. Please provide a fix asap.

Just to add, I have done a factory reset on the Nest Mini and tried setting it up with a combination of different settings (e.g. voice match enabled/disabled, calling enabled/disabled, personalised results enabled/disabled). I wasn't in the preview program but have since added that hoping for a fix. It sometimes unlinks by my partner's account or my account, doesn't seem to be any consistency. I've submitted feedback as suggested by a reply in this thread.

Just like everyone else who commented. This issue started a few days ago.
Once I set up the Nest mini, it will started unlinking itself and shows it was unlinked by user2 (only me and user2 is in the home group). Vice versa, if user2 sets up the nest mini, it will show me unlinking the device. Neither of us actually did intentionally unlink it or is using the home app.

Router is about 5 feet from the nest mini. Have tried factory reset, tried different wifi network. We are sure none of our accounts are compromise, neither believe the issue lies with our network/wifi setup.

We have another home mini gen 1 that works perfectly fine.

Been having this issue for about two weeks with my best mini (2nd gen). It unlinks itself from the household once or twice a day at random times, stating it was me or my other household member that unlinked it (which also seems to be random). We're still checking with our Higher Team, based on their initial investigation, there is an ongoing update with the Google Nest Mini most of the time the device will automatically reboot on its on while its doing some update and when the device will reboot it will also disconnect or un-linked on the account. So far we are collating on how many customer affected this issue and we highly advice to send feedback using the Google Nest Mini.
Send feedback using your voice:

This problem is happening to me as well. Received the free Mini from Google over the holidays, and it unlinks every day.

It essentially is a paperweight at this point. Every time I ask to play music on it it asks for a login from the Google Home app, where I will set it up and it will unlink within 24 hours.

Additionally if I open the Google Home app, it will not allow me to cast music. It simply says "unable to play music on this device at the moment".

Sign me up here. This Nest Mini has been nothing but problems since I got it on christmas. I worked fine for a couple of days then it disconnected and now unlinks daily. I have a bunch of other Google Home 1st Gens and the Lenovo Smart Clock and neither of them have any problems. It's only with the Nest Mini. I've tried factory resetting it multiple times to no avail.

I just received a Google home nest Mini. Before this, I had one Google home and three other original Google minis. I never had an issue with either of those four devices. I first put this new Google home nest Mini in the bathroom for music, but it would unlink from the network every 4-5 hours. I thought maybe it was too far from the modem for a Wi-Fi signal, so I moved it right into the living room to act as a second speaker for the Google home. It is still unlinking from my network. What do I do?
