Nest Protect will not connect. Keep getting error code P018. 0 Recommended Answers 15 Replies 2 Upvotes

I’ve followed all the steps from support to try and remedy this but nothing works. I’ve reset the Protect, reinstalled the app, restarted the router and iPhone, but I keep getting the same error. It always stalls at the setting up nest network portion of the process. I’m at a loss as to what to do next. I was able to install 2 nest thermostats but the protect will not join. I’m on AT&T Fiber using that BGW210 gateway.

Thank you for reaching out. 
 
Let's try this troubleshooting steps: 
  1. Remove the Nest protect on the mobile app.  
  2. Reset the Nest protect by doing these steps:  
    • Press and hold the button on Nest Protect. It will chime and the light will turn blue.
    • Release the button when Nest Protect starts speaking its version number.
    • Nest Protect will start an audible countdown and tell you it’s erasing all settings. Cancel the reset by pressing the button again.
    • After a few seconds your Nest Protect will reset.
  3. After that you move the Nest protect near the modem and have it added on the App.
  4. If you are getting the same issue please do check your router settings
  5. Can you please try to connect your Nest protect to a mobile hotspot and see if it will be connected to it.

I tried all those suggestions and as well as connecting it to my hotspot and it still says it fails to add Nest Protect to my account. I’ve attached a photo of where it errors out. When I look at my wifi network it’s connected it just won’t add to my nest account.

Thanks for bringing this up. The P018 error can occur when you're adding additional Nest Protects to your account. If you're getting a P018 error, you can try the following troubleshooting tips:
 
  • Make sure the light ring is glowing blue ( You can press the button once to ensure that it's glowing blue )
  • Move Nest Protects closer to your Wi-Fi router ( Nest Protect can only be connected to 2.4gHz)
  • If you have tried to pair Nest Protect multiple times, refresh the connection between the Nest App and Nest Protect. You can press the Nest button 3 times, or until 'Cancelled' is spoken. Nest Protect's light will turn off then Quit and restart the Nest app on your mobile device.
  • Try adding your Nest Protect again.
  • If the previous steps don't work, you may need to restart your phone or tablet.

Tried all those things and still no go. Was on with Nest support for an hour and they couldn’t get it fixed. They had to escalate to advanced support and they are supposed to call me back very frustrating.

Tomas - Are you using an iPhone? Do you have any Android phone that you can use to have the Nest protect added on the app?
