Why is my Google Wifi is blocking websites on its own? 2 Recommended Answers 40 Replies 58 Upvotes

I noticed that I could not access a link that my colleagues could, a .mil site.  I pinpointed the problem to my Google Wifi as when I disconnected from it, I was then able to access the link.  I did not specify to my Google Wifi to block the .mil site, why is it doing this on its own?  Coincidentally, when I'm connected to my Google Wifi, it is also routing .mil e-mail into my junk mail!  Again, this is not happening to my colleagues just to me when the connected to the Google Wifi.

No, the response did not answer the question.  Tried 4 different browsers on two different computers and when the Google wifi is on, web sites .mil blocked.  When I use my wifi network directly from my router/modem, same two computers, same browsers, websites are NOT blocked.  This is isolated to when the Google wifi is On (used as the network connection)...So, now, both of my computers use my modem/router wifi network directly.  I will be forced to stop using this product if no one can explain to me why its doing this.  I work from home and cannot have it filtering out sites that I need to get to.

I'm having the exact same issue with the site rpg.net. Off of the router I can access the site but on the router I can't. Tried switching the DNS. I did some digging into browser logs and it fails while performing the TLS handshake, but again ONLY on the Google Wifi router. What's going on?

Other notes:
  • It started recently. I was able to access it last week on the router with no issues at all.
  • DNS switching didn't help.
  • Guest wifi didn't help.
  • All site filtering is disabled.

Hi,

Thanks for helping out! Really frustrating! :) I answer your questions below:

1. There are two sites managed by one server at Oderland (Hosting service provider). www.finy.se and www.leadsgenerator.com. Both are accessible when I leave home and connect to another wifi or through GPRS network anywhere. But not using Google Wifi at home.

2. I have right now hardwired my MacBook Pro to the modem and now it works great! See attached pictures. But this is not a permanent solution for me... ;)

3. I have also setup a Guest network but can not reach the sites from there either. Same problem.

And... I have 6 Google Wifi access points. Thought that might be an issue so I pulled the plug at all of them, except the main one with ethernet connection to the modem. Didn't work either. Restarted the modem and access point but still the same.

Have cleared all caches and browser history on all my devices. (iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPAD and Macbook Pro. Didn't help. All devices shows the same issue.

I have no idea how to get this to work. Would be a shame to have to buy a new Mesh system.
