Nest/Google announced today that customers will no longer be able to access settings to turn off the status light. I find this to be an absolute violation of my privacy as a paying (and subscribing) customer and I will be utilizing a different camera provider from here forward! Is anyone else furious at this news?
This is ridiculous! I'm being censored. I can't even post a response saying that I agree this this complaint. Am trying some different language now (although there was nothing that I said that would have violated 'Community Policy' before).

Am going to try to post my censored message again. I said "I am so annoyed about this! I bought the camera
to monitor for intruders. The last thing that I want is for them to immediately
become aware of the camera! How is this not my choice to have the status light
on or not???"

Yes. I've been waiting 2 years now for some improvements to Nest Detect based on Google's vaunted machine learning skills, and the latest update in that regard is that it can tell me when it hears a dog barking? (And 90% of the time it's my kid crying anyway.)
What exactly is the point of this change, other than to annoy legitimate users? If someone wants to use a Nest cam to spy on someone else, they'll just paint over the light indicators, which is what I'm going to need to do so that my toddler isn't staring into a blue light as they try to go to sleep in their crib.

I use my Cameras to monitor outdoors. Now the thieves will know where they are. I also use a few indoors cameras facing outside. Now these will be useless at night. Nest/Google if this is what you are going to do then issue those of us who spent thousands because they did not have a light a FULL refund. I have 10 cameras 6 indoor 2 IQ and 2 Outdoor. Plus Aware subscriptions. Really Google!

This insane. A flashlight on a security camera? I’ve never heard of something like this before. Now the bad guys know exactly where all my cameras are placed in and outdoors and can even know when I’m actively monitoring them. End users should be able to opt out of this and maintain full control of their cameras.

What a crazy regression and misunderstanding of who you're serving. You are rolling out a feature that takes control of the devices your paying customers OWN out of our hands in the name of protecting the privacy of the criminals we bought our devices to defend our homes from. Like many others I also use one as a baby monitor, a purpose for which it's now useless.
