My Google Home is setting volume instead of pressing number 0 Recommended Answers 7 Replies 2 Upvotes

When placing a call with google home, I was able to press numbers by saying "Ok Google, press 1".  But in the last week or so when I do that, it drops the volume down to 1 instead of pressing 1.

Is anyone else having this issue?  It's really a problem for my dad as he is blind and has limited mobility, so is reliant on the google home to call businesses that have navigation menus.

Hi Jack Za,

Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear about your experience when making a phone call using your Google Home. Let's check on this further.

What type of Google Home/Nest speakers are you using? Do you get any error message when you say "press 1" when making a phone call? Let's go ahead and try to make multiple phone calls after you restart your speakers so we can check if that would make any changes.

Let us know how it goes.

Type?  I'm using a google home speaker, not a mini.

There have been times, where I do get an error message, but that isn't related to this issue.  All that happens when I say 'press 1' is that the speaker's volume goes down to level 1 making it difficult to hear and does not send a tone to indicate a button has  press the button.  So no, no error message.

Restarts have been attempted without success.

Hi Jack Za,

Thanks for the update.

Let's go ahead and perform a full reset to your device and let's test if it will exhibit the same behavior. Also, it would be very helpful if you can attach a short video clip of it while making a phone call so we can further check.

Princess

Still no joy.  Attached is an example of this behaviour.  This occurs on the google mini that my dad has as well.

Hmmm. Can't seem to attach any video.  Keeps saying "A problem occurred. Please try again." when I try and post.  The file was originally 5MB, but then I tried to upload a 2MB file, and finally a 800kB file.  Why is this forum not allowing me to post a video of the problem?

Ok, published on YouTube.

Stupid forum. :(

Hi Jack Za,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Have you tried to perform a full reset to your Google Home? Let's try that first and see if it will resolve this.

Keep us posted.

Hi Princess S.,

Oh, sorry. Looks like I forgot to say in my last message that yes, I did a full reset of the device.

This really makes my dad's life difficult as he cannot move through any phone menu system.  He attempts to use a handset, but his vision is limited as is the dexterity and feeling in his fingers.
