Google Home sync issue with Philips Hue

Is google going to address the issue with linking Philips Hue lights? I have not heard any communication of a timeline for this fix and have tried several "solutions" with no success. I have 29 Philips Hue light bulbs installed that are functioning as basic lights right now - I'm incredibly frustrated to say the least.

Can someone from Google please let me know what is going on with this issue? I'll list the things I have tried below to save anyone time from suggesting fixes:

I've renamed all of the lights and tried to relink. I have unlinked the bridge from my account as well as Philips Hue and all of the lights and attempted to relink. I have tried from different phones. I've visited https://account.meethue.com/account and unlinked all instances of google and unlinked my bridge repeatedly. I have factory reset all of my Google Homes. I have done everything above in combination with each other as well. I might be missing some things because I've spent hours trying to fix this issue and cannot remember any other steps I've taken. I've had no success getting Philips Hue relinked to my Home Control.

Most of the time I receive a successful message but nothing actually shows up in my device list. If I try again immediately I get the "check your connection message"

Any update is appreciated.
Jeff

I think I followed your twitter discussion yesterday with @tweethue. Just wanted to add that I have been having the exact same issue trying to relink my account. The symptoms are identical as well.

Have you tried through the Philips Hue app from your phone?

Open the app and select the the "Explore" tab.
The first option is "Log in to My Hue".

Can you control the lights through the Hue app manually?
Have you tried connecting a different bridge?

I am able to control the lights through the hue app on both iOS (iPad Pro) and Android (Pixel 2). I can also control them through IFTTT weirdly enough.

I don’t have another bridge to connect to.

Hi Jeff, this is a user-to-user forum and you won't get nor should you expect a response from Google since they don't monitor these forums. The project team is aware of the problem, and since it's not yet rectified it appears to be not a simple fix. The best advice I can offer is for you to submit feedback and include "Home automation issue after update" and include your logs when you do.

It sucks, I know, but the project team is working on it. Now, while not ideal the Hue app may need to suffice for the time being and the best we can do here is ask for your patience. When or if we hear something, we'll circle back and provide whatever info is made available to us. Thanks again.

I'm wondering if connecting another hue and then swapping back works. I had a weird state like that when I was setting up the 2 bridges in my place. Since only one can be linked to your account at a time I ended up switching between two bridges for a while. At one point I had a problem similar to what you are describing. Hasn't happened since.

I received this from Tier 2 Google Tech Support. It worked for me...

Thank you for reaching out to Google.

My name is Gracey, one of the Tier 2 Support Personnel from the Google Home team and I'll be providing you further assistance.

We've been receiving same reports from other users regarding some of our Home Automation Partners not linking to Google Home. Our engineers are already working on it and investigating for a stable fix. In the meantime,we have a work around that we can try.Hopefully, these steps will work.

Below are the troubleshooting steps that you can follow:

  • Open the Philips Hue App and rename your lights

  • Download Google Assistant, make sure to sign in the same account you have linked to your Google Home.

  • Clear the Home App cache.

Here's how to  clear app data using iOS

  1. Tap Settings > General > iPhone Storage.(On an iPad the last option will be labelled iPad Storage.)

  2. At the bottom of the screen you'll see your apps, arranged by the amount of storage they take up. Select an app that's taking up a lot of space.

  3. Take a look at the entry for Documents & Data. If this takes up more than 500MB, it's worth deleting and reinstalling the app to clear the space.

  4. Tap Delete App, confirm, then head to the App Store and re-download it. This will be a clean install without all the data and documents.

Here's how to clear app data using Android

  1. Go to your phone settings > Applications > Application Manager > Tap on " Home App" > Storage > Clear cache

  • Do a clean up via the Philips Hue App. Here is how:

  1. Tap on the Philips Hue App > Go to Settings > Bridges > Bridge will show up > Across the bridge's name, click on the circle with letter (i) icon> Choose clean up

  • Using the Google Assistant, relink your  Philips Hue Account from there

  • Click on the menu bar(blue circle with white box in the middle)

  • Under Explore. You'll see a search bar, type in "Philips Hue"

  • Tap on Philips Hue

  • Click on "Set Up"

  • You'll be routed to Home Control section

  • Click on the blue circle with plus sign on the lower right corner of the screen

  • Choose "Philips Hue"

  • Sign in to your Philips Hue Account

  • Ask Google Home a command

Hopefully, I was able to provide you a better instruction.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thank you TerryMcG! That solution, although annoying to go through, worked for me! The only thing I noticed is that a bunch of scenes are now showing up as devices which is weird... I suppose I'll take that over nothing working at all though.

Just say 'sync my lights' to Google, and it should work fine!
