Google Account not found in Google Home App

Hello,

I am looking for help with the Google Home App on my Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo. After I recently uninstalled the Google Home app and reinstalled it again, the app does not find the google account on my device and asks me to create a new account. It did work fine before.
Upon initial start of the reinstalled app, there is a "Welcome home" screen with a "GET STARTED" button. Pressing the button leads directly to a "Confirm pattern" screen where I draw my unlock pattern, than a "Checking Info" screen appears shortly followed by an "Add your account" screen with a form that says "Email or phone". Ones I type in the google account I use on my device, the form turns red and below a red text says "This account already exists on your device", which is true. That's why I wanted to use it. Well, I also tried and created a new account but this was then also not detected. In the end I get to the google Home App screen "Choose account" and a subtitle called "Use this account with the Google Home app" and apparently there should be a list of available accounts, but there is just one item called "Use another account" and a button called "OK". The account that is active on my device is not listed (and also no other added account) and pressing the "OK" button does nothing.
Why can't I choose any of my google accounts to work with the google Home app.
I really appreciate any help and hints.

Cheers, Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the report and the detailed screenshots. The team is aware and investigating this.

If you could help us and answer a few questions:
1. What OS version is your mobile device on?
2. If you haven't yet, try rebooting your phone.
3. Double check you have enabled 'Phone', 'Contacts' and 'SMS' permissions within the Google Play Services.

To do this:

  1. Open settings on their Android device
  2. Open the Apps section (Application Manager)
  3. Locate and open 'Google Play Services'
  4. Click 'permission'
  5. Enable the following settings: phone, contacts, sms
4. Try one more time and if you get stuck again, tap on the 3 dots at the top right corner and tap on "Submit feedback". In the description of the report please include the keywords "Account already exists" and be sure to check the box for "Include screenshot and logs".

Same here.  Already tried all suggestions above with no success.

It worked until I updated to the latest version (I think the version I had before was something other than "home" - I used it to stream to Chromecast).

Hi Paula,
thank you for your hints. Unfortunately the problem persists so far...

1. My OS version is Android 6.0.1
2. sure, I have rebooted my phone a couple of times
3. This is not understandable. It worked before and I have never given permission for my contacts, phone and sms to the app. And I really do not wand to give these permissions. Are you saying, that the app really needs these permissions in order to function? And if so, why did it work before?
4. I have submitted a feedback with the desired keywords and I included a reference token:  xwT275hWq967

Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
Frank

I managed to figure the same issue on my phone out. What happened was a while ago I stopped giving permission and stopped running some other Google apps on my phone. Once I returned all of them to default and for them to have permission the problem went away. No-one on Google home help desk knew what to do but I managed it myself by doing this. Think it's a cross talk between all the Google apps on the phone or tablet which causes the account problems.
Hope this helps in some way

Hi, I just had a long chat with Google Home support. I had the above issue has been solved (but other issues remain). In my case I was running "Google (Beta)" app (careful, this is not Google Home app, but Google app!). By uninstalling and installing the normal version, rebooting mobile phone and factory resetting google home device (long click on the mute button on the back) solved the problem. I can now again start google home app.
I cannot however, access the settings of the app...
I hope it helps.
Cheers,
Helder
