Google Home Family Link

Hello,

I setup a family link account for my 5 year old. I tried to add Google home and it says it's not supported. Is this feature not available? If not, when will it be? If so, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Larkin

Hi Larkin,

Thanks for your post in the Google Home Help Forum!

I don't believe the Google Home is yet able to be added to the Family Link. I see on the Google"s blog  Keyword that it is "coming soon".
Hopefully the Home device will be added soon.

I would also like to second this. It's very disappointing they launched the Google Home Mini without multi-user support for the whole family.

I was on my way to migrate from Echo to Home but this was one of the showstoppers. The other two are the lack of grandular control of alarms and no web based access to Home.

I see there are instructions now on how to add the Google Home to my child's account, as well as some other users that have successfully added thiers, but mine still says unsupported. How do I fix this?

Hi Chris,

Where do you see the message about unsupported? Do you see it on the Google Family app or the Home app?

Take a look through Google Home & your child's Google account and Google Family Link for more info.

I haven't any personal experience with the family settings and Home so hopefully another user that has can add to this discussion.

Let us know where you are seeing the message and what region you are located.

Thanks!

I'm seeing this in the family link app when trying to connect to Google home. Street going through the prior steps I get to the part where is asking to add devices. It's scans my network then shows my Google Home and Mini both saying unsupported.

The only time I saw unsupported was when I tried to download the home app on the family link device.

Have you tried setting up the mini using your phone first? Then connecting with the family link device?

Yeah I have both the Home and Mini already setup through my account and been using them for a few days.

Has anybody been able to get this to work? I am trying to follow those directions, but I get to step 3, "In the top right, tap More More and then Sign in to Google Home." and there is no "More" button in the top right.

Hi,

If you are not seeing that three dot menu to select as below you can contact the Google Family Link support: Here
Update all your apps and restart your phones since that seems to help some users.

Thanks and hope this will help.
  1. On your child's device, open the Family Link app Family Link.
  2. Select your child.
  3. In the top left, tap More More and then Sign in to Google Home.
  4. In the bottom right, tap Add Create.
  5. Check the box next to the Google Home you want to add.
  6. On the "Parent permission" screen, tap your name and email address.
  7. Follow the instructions on your screen to sign in your child.
