Broadcast feature stopped working

I have home and home mini. They broadcasted to eachother well at first. Then I started to get the message that there was an issue and it would broadcast the message, but it would be the voice of the assistant. Now it says broadcasting now, but nothing plays from the other home device. I have rebooted both, rebooted router, cleared app cache, made sure they are not in do not disturb... Not sure what to do next.

May I suggest a factory reset instead of reboots? My home mini would only do the assistant voice for ages and a factory reset was the only way to fix it. I'm aware yours has gone a step further, but if a factory reset doesn't fix it then it may be worth having a chat with Google support.

I was hoping to avoid that, but hard to think of anything else that may work.

Yeah not much else to try. Let us know if E.motive's advice helped or not

Do you have "Night Mode" enabled on any of your devices?  That is the biggest culprit right now.  Doing a factory reset only helps because it disables Night Mode.  If you decide to re-enable it on any given device, that device won't receive the broadcast.  I hope it's fixed soon!

Good suggestion Monica - thank you. ALl does Monica's suggestion resolve this or you still have the issue?

I have done as Monica suggested, and I can now set up reminders which also didn't work and I can get the minis to broadcast the generic messages. However they still will not record and send my own messages. If I try from my tablet, my voice messages are transmitted so disabling night mode is only a partial fix for me.

I spoke with support via chat last night and the person said they are seeing this issue from multiple users. I personally haven't tried disabling Night Mode. That was probably the only thing we didn't try while chatting with support. We tried unplugging the home and uninstalling the app. I may check the Night mode settings when I get home tonight just to confirm. I had no issues prior to this week with broadcast. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

I had night mode activated, but had tried disabling that as well to no avail.  So here is my update.  I factory reset both devices.  I can now send broadcast messages from the Google Home Mini to the OG Google Home, and that is now working.  It is not working the other way around.  OG Google Home will say, "Got it, broadcasting now." and the Home Mini will not do anything at all.  Weird.  If I'm being honest, I'm getting a little annoyed, and hate to do this here, but the Amazon Echo device can "call" other Echo devices.  I can also call my Echo with my phone... It is almost 3rd Trimester 2018... why can a device with a speaker and microphone made by Google, not do the same thing?  Please, please, lets move beyond a broadcast system that honestly for me has been plagued with issues, to much better alternative so we don't all start moving to the Echo.... please.

I agree. I was very much for team google, which is why I have 3 homes and 6 minis as well as 4 Chromecasts. But they've really dropped the ball on this one. Why can't we call another device? Broadcasting to all is silly. At the very Least we should be able to broadcast to 'x'.

I'm also genuinely considering selling all and staring again with Alexia.

reasons: 1 not being able to change hotword 'ok/hey google gets tired REAL fast.

2. Updates aren't available in a timely fashion and when they are finally out they're half baked and only available to USA.

3.the menu system is a dogs breakfast. It's a mush mash of cobbled together menus that are completely unintuitive. Google home is one of the few apps I use where I can't find items I looked at the day before.

The sad part is really I don't see it getting better. They whole system needs a complete rewrite. With all of their billions you'd think google could do a much better job with this. But it will likely be the band aids on band aids situation as usual.

Personally I'll give it a few more months to see if by some miricle the G home ship gets righted or I'm jumping off.

What Graeme said... exactly.  I'm in same boat.  I tried both Echo/Alexa and G Home, and ultimately went Google due to Chromecast integration (I have 5, two tv's and the other are music for synchronization between speakers I already owned).  I honestly believed updates would come fast and furious, and frankly it would catch up and surpass Amazon... I'm so tired of saying hey google... its so unnatural... Alexa rolls off the tongue.  And amen on the Home app... I'm an admitted wannabe techy, but I can usually figure things out pretty quick... with that app I am constantly having to Google how to do things with a Google app... that shouldn't be the case.

Sat down to do more troubleshooting this morning. I factory reset one device and tested and it worked fine. However as soon as night mode was enabled, it stopped working. I disabled night mode on all my minis and home and now broadcast works on all of them. So just confirming it's an issue with night mode, for me anyway. I would like to have that feature turned on of course.
