Set up and control Microsoft Xbox devices with the Assistant

You can control Microsoft Xbox devices with your voice when you link them in the Google Home app. If you add an Assistant speaker or display, voice control can be hands-free.

Supported devices

  • Xbox One
  • Xbox One S and S All-Digital Edition
  • Xbox One X

Link your Xbox in the Google Home app

Quick setup

You can use quick setup if you followed a shortcut link on your TV, and you’ve already enabled digital assistants and instant-on on your Xbox. 

On your phone or tablet, follow this shortcut:

Link your Xbox to your Google Account

If you’ve already downloaded the Google Home app, the link will take you to a screen where you can link your Xbox account with the Home app.

  1. Follow Microsoft’s account linking steps, and assign consoles to rooms.
  2. Your Xbox is ready. Tap Done.
  3. Setup is complete. You can now control your Xbox with your voice.

If you haven’t downloaded the Google home app, the link will take you to a screen where you can get the app. Download the app, then open the shortcut link again.

Link your account manually

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Set up your Assistant speaker or display through the Google Home app Google Home app, if you haven’t already done so. (Optional step if you want hands-free voice control.)
  3. Set up your Xbox according to the manufacturer’s instructions, if you haven’t already done so.
  4. On your Xbox, set power mode to instant-on and enable digital assistants.
  5. Open the Google Home app Google Home app. Make sure you have the most recent version.
  6. Tap Devices Add Works with Google Home Works with Google Home.
  7. Enter Xbox in the search bar select Xbox.
  8. Follow Microsoft’s account linking steps, and assign consoles to rooms.
  9. Your Xbox is ready. Tap Done.
  10. Setup is complete. You can now control your Xbox with your voice.

Control your Xbox

These are some basic voice commands you can use. Make sure to use the name of your console as it appears in the Google Home app. 

To do this: Say "Hey Google" or "Ok Google," then:
Turn your console on or off "Turn on or off <console name>"
Launch an app "Launch <app name> on <console name>"
Play a game "Play <game name> on <console name>"
Record a game clip during gameplay "Record that on <console name>"
Control media playback

"Pause on <console name>"
"Resume on <console name>"
"Next Episode on <console name>"

Control TV settings (if you’ve set up device control on your console) "Volume up on <console name>"
"Mute on <console name>"
Open system settings and features

"Open Settings on <console name>"

You can also open Friends or Party with your voice.
