Set preferred activities to improve Wi-Fi performance

With Google Nest Wifi Pro, Nest Wifi, and Google Wifi devices, you can have your network focus its bandwidth on activities that need a faster connection to the internet such as video conferencing. This will help these activities receive preference over other activities on your home network.

This setting is on by default but isn't active unless one of your devices is performing one of your preferred activities.

Turn on or off preferred activities

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Wifi  and then Network settings and then Preferred activities.
  3. Check each activity type you would like your network to prioritize.

Preferred activities remain prioritized for your network until you turn them off. If you also set a priority device, 70% of your bandwidth will be reserved for that device. This may slow down your other devices and preferred activities if sufficient bandwidth is not available from your ISP for other devices.

Video conferencing

You can set video conferencing as a preferred activity so that when you're in a meeting, you can communicate with others more clearly with fewer interruptions and less choppy audio or video. The video conferencing preferred activity supports Google Meet, Zoom, MS team, Slack, GoToMeeting, and Webex meetings.
