Set preferred activities (video conferencing, gaming)

With Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi, you can have your network focus its bandwidth on activities that need a faster connection to the internet such as video conferencing and gaming. This will help these activities receive preference over other activities on your home network.

This setting is on by default but isn’t active unless one of your devices is performing one of your preferred activities. Note: This feature is only available in the Google Home app.

Preferred activities

Video conferencing

You can set video conferencing as a preferred activity so that when you’re in a meeting, you can communicate with others more clearly with fewer interruptions and less choppy audio or video. The video conferencing preferred activity supports Google Meet, Zoom, MS team, Slack, GoToMeeting, and Webex meetings.

For the best Stadia gaming experience, especially for 4K streaming, online gaming traffic needs a fast pathway to and from cloud servers without being overly delayed by an underperforming router or competing traffic on the same network.

The preferred activity setting for gaming on Google Nest Wifi and Google Wifi automatically optimizes Stadia gaming traffic. Selecting “Gaming” prioritizes Stadia, so that your gameplay doesn't get slowed down by other devices or activities on your network, like someone streaming TV or browsing the web in the other room. Stadia is a new gaming platform that lets you instantly play games across screens without waiting for game downloads or installations.
