It's normal for a Google Nest thermostat to take some time to start up after you reset or restart it. An animation appears on the screen to let you know that it's making progress. If this screen doesn't go away after a minute or two, or if it's frozen or stuck, check these steps to help you troubleshoot.
Step 1: Check your wires
Important: Turn off power to your system at the breaker box, fuse box or system switch. This helps prevent damage to your system and keeps you safe.

Step 2: Reseat the Nest thermostat display
Make sure that the thermostat display is properly connected to its base.
- Pull the display off the base.
- Gently push the thermostat wires back into the wall. If they stick out, they can prevent the display from fully connecting to the base.
- Press the display back onto the base. Make sure that it snaps into place.
Tip: If you used screws that weren't included with your Nest thermostat to mount it to the wall, the display might not attach properly to the base.
Step 3: Restart your Nest thermostat

- Check your Heat Link's light: This lets you know if the Heat Link is connected to your Nest thermostat. For example, a steady green light means that it's working normally, while a steady yellow light means that it's been disconnected. Learn what your Heat Link lights mean.
- Ensure that your device has enough power: Your device will turn off its screen and disconnect from Wi-Fi if it can't get enough power. Use your Nest thermostat's USB port to quickly charge its battery. Learn how to use your Nest thermostat USB port.
