Troubleshooting when the Heat Link light is yellow

If your Heat Link and Google Nest thermostat lose their connection, the status light on the Heat Link will glow steady yellow. If this happens, the Nest thermostat won’t be able to control your heating or hot water until the connection is restored. If needed, you can press the button on the Heat Link to manually turn on heating until Heat Link reconnects.

If you have a Nest Thermostat E, press the button on the Heat Link to check its status. If you see a blinking yellow status light on the Heat Link, it means something needs your attention. Check your thermostat display or the app for an error code or other message.

If you have a Nest Learning Thermostat, and the light on the Heat Link is yellow, it means the Heat Link has lost its connection with your Nest thermostat.

Important: If you need to heat your home while Heat Link is disconnected, press the large button in the middle of Heat Link to manually turn on your boiler. For Nest Thermostat E, you may need to press the button twice until you see a steady green heating light gen 3 heat light green.

Your Nest thermostat will also tell you if it becomes
disconnected from the Heat Link. On the Nest thermostat
display, you will see a red circle with an error code and a
message that Nest can't connect to Heat Link.

Note: While in manual heating mode, the status light will be
yellow if the Nest thermostat and Heat Link are still
disconnected from each other. It will turn green if they have reconnected.

How to reconnect Heat Link and Nest thermostat

Usually, your Nest thermostat and the Heat Link will reconnect on their own, even if your Wi-Fi is down, as they communicate over their own proprietary wireless network.

If it doesn’t reconnect on its own, check the red circle with an error code (e.g. H71) on your thermostat display and follow the instructions in the article below:

When they reconnect, the status light will turn solid green and
the Nest thermostat will automatically return to controlling
your heating and hot water according to its schedule. If
the HeatLink is in Manual mode, you’ll see “Manual” on the Nest app
home screen and on the thermostat.
