If you've just had your Nest thermostat installed or if you've reset it to default, you'll need to complete the setup interview. During setup, you'll give your thermostat a few basics about your home and your heating system so that it can help save energy.

Language
Select the language that your Nest thermostat will use to display text. Your thermostat will also choose a time format based on the language that you choose. For example, if you select English (US), you'll see 12-hour time. If you select English (UK), you'll see 24-hour time. You can change your language at any time by going to the Settings 
Internet connection
Select your network name from the list of available networks. You may need to wait a moment while your Nest thermostat scans for available networks.
You don't need to connect your thermostat to the Internet to heat your home, but you won't be able to access all your thermostat's features. Please follow this link to learn more about features that are only available if you connect to Wi-Fi:

If you need to enter your password, turn the thermostat ring to highlight a letter, number or symbol and then press the ring to select it. Use Shift to switch between lower-case letters (abc), capital letters (ABC), numbers and punctuation (123), and additional symbols (* ` ?).
Use the backspace icon ⌫ if you made a mistake and need to delete something. Select the tick

Your location
If it's connected to Wi-Fi, your Nest thermostat will try to guess your location. If it's not correct, you can enter the correct location here. Your Nest thermostat uses your location to update the date and time and to get local weather information. If you haven't connected to Wi-Fi, you'll need to enter your country, location, date and time zone.
Next choose your home type (single family, multi-family, a flat or a business). Your Nest thermostat will work a little differently if it's located in a business.
Select which room your thermostat is in. You can choose names, such as hallway, cellar or bedroom. You can also enter your own custom room name if the room you want isn't available.
Equipment
If your system was installed by a Nest Pro, your installer will select Nest Pro and enter their Nest Pro ID. If you're not a Nest Pro, choose Skip this step to answer a few questions about your heating system.
During the equipment step, your Heat Link will try to connect to your thermostat. You'll receive a message if your Heat Link and thermostat have been paired. If you need any help with pairing your Heat Link, please follow this link:

When your Heat Link has been paired, tell your Nest thermostat what kind of boiler you have (combi boiler, system boiler or other boiler). Your Nest thermostat will have different options for each type of system. You'll also specify your control type (OpenTherm or On/Off), and you'll need to enter a fuel source.
How to tell what kind of heating you have >
You may need to choose a supply temperature and hot water control if your system is wired to control your domestic hot water. Contact a Nest Pro if you need help with determining the right supply temperature for your home.
Temperature
Choose your Eco Temperature.
Your thermostat can use Home/Away Assist to know when you leave and automatically set your thermostat to your Eco Temperature to help save energy.
Your Eco Temperature is how warm your thermostat will keep your house when you’re away. For example, if you set your Eco temperature to 55°F (13°C), your thermostat will not heat your home while you’re away until the temperature drops below 55°F (13°C).
System test
After you’ve answered all the questions, you have the option to test your system. You can use System Test to make sure that your system works as it should.
If you decide to test your system later, you can test your system at any time in the Settings
Nest app
After you’ve tested your system, connect your Nest thermostat to the Nest app so you can control it with your phone, manage your energy history, lock your thermostat so the temperature can’t be changed, and more.
