Zoom and enhance Nest camera video

When you’re watching Google Nest camera or doorbell video with the app, you can take a closer look by zooming in with your fingers. 

Zoom in or out of your camera’s video

Zoom in and out of your camera’s video to temporarily take a closer look at part of the scene.

Note: Zooming in or out won’t change the footage that’s uploaded to the Nest service, and it won’t change what appears for other people who have access to your camera in the app. Your camera will still stream its entire wide-angle view. Just the same, the camera’s entire view will still appear in recorded and saved video.

The Home app

1. Open the Home app.
2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
3. In your camera’s Live or History view, you can:
   • Spread or pinch two fingers to zoom in or out.
   • Double tap to zoom in. Do it again to zoom in further.
   • Drag one finger to pan around.

The Nest app

1. Open the Nest app.
2. On the home screen, select your camera or doorbell.
3. In the live video stream or video history, here’s what you can do to the camera view:
   • Spread or pinch two fingers to zoom in or out. 
   • You can also double tap to zoom in. Double tap again to zoom in further.
   • Drag one finger to pan around.

Tip: Turn your phone to landscape mode so the video fills the entire screen. This can make zooming easier.

Enhance with Nest app

Note: Enhance is only available for cameras and doorbells set up in the Nest app.

Enhance keeps your camera zoomed in all the time, even when you’re not watching video. Because your camera focuses its entire sensor on the area you’ve zoomed in on, Enhance can show more detail.

Here’s what happens when you use Enhance for your camera’s video:

• You’ll always see the zoomed-in Enhance view when watching live video. The same goes for any other people who share access to your home in the Nest app.
• You won’t get alerts about motion that happens outside the zoomed-in area. This includes any Activity Zones you have set up, so after you turn on Enhance, you should manually adjust your zones to fit the new scene.
• If you have a Nest Aware subscription, only the zoomed-in portion gets recorded. 

Enhance your camera’s view

1. Open the Nest app.
2. On the home screen, tap your camera or doorbell.
3. Use two fingers to pinch and zoom to adjust the view to your preference.
4. Tap Enhance . Tip: If you don’t see this icon, tap the screen once to bring up the camera controls.
5. Wait a few seconds for your camera to update and sharpen the view.

To turn off Enhance, tap Cancel Enhance . If you don’t see this icon, tap the screen once to bring up the camera controls.
