Learn about the cables and AC adapters that come with Nest cameras

Most Google Nest cameras except the Google Nest Hello include a cable that lets you plug your camera into a standard household outlet, providing power for 24/7 continuous video streaming and alerts. Nest Hello splices directly into your home’s low-voltage wiring. Here are details about cable length and connectors for each camera.

The cable that comes with your camera is designed for use with the included adapter to provide continuous power to your camera. If you have a Nest Hello, you won’t have a cable and adapter. Instead, you’ll attach it directly to your home’s low-voltage wiring. With continuous power, your camera can constantly stream video and send alerts instead of only turning on when it senses motion.

Nest Cam IQ Outdoor

  • 25 ft (7.5 m) power cable with indoor AC adapter.
  • The power cable has USB type-C connectors on both ends.

    • One end of the cable plugs into the AC adapter, which plugs into an indoor power outlet. The AC adapter is not designed for outdoor use.

Note: If you'd like to plug your camera into an outdoor power outlet, the Nest Weatherproof Power Adapter made for outdoor use may be available for purchase at the Nest Store in select countries. You might also want to install a lockable "while in use" cover over the outlet to prevent your camera from being unplugged.

    • The other end of the cable connects securely to the camera's base on the back. Because the cable is engineered to precisely fit the base, it's not reversible.
  • If you're drilling a hole to route your cable, you'll need to drill a hole at least .5 inches (13 mm) wide larger for the cable to pass through.
  • You can paint the power cable and the included cable clips. Do not paint the AC adapter or any part of the camera.
  • The power cable, adapter, and cable clips are specifically designed for Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. Do not use them with other devices.

Note: Nest Hello does not plug into an outlet, so it doesn’t include a USB cable, an
adapter, or a plug-in power cable.

Note: If you need more length, we don’t recommend swapping your camera’s USB cable with a longer one from a different manufacturer. USB cables made by other companies may not be able to supply enough power to your camera. Instead, you can plug your camera into a traditional extension cord that’s rated for the indoor or outdoor environment where you’re using it.
