The Nest Leaf 
icon appears on your thermostat (and in the Home app or Nest app) to tell you when your thermostat is set to an energy-saving temperature. The Leaf encourages you to choose energy-saving temperatures that are a little lower or higher than what you’ve set in the past.
- The Leaf will always appear when your thermostat is set to the following temperatures:
- When heating, the Leaf will appear when the temperature is set to 62°F (16.5°C) or below.
- When cooling, the Leaf will appear when the temperature is set to 84°F (29°C) or above.
- If you have a zoned system and more than one thermostat in your home, you may get the Leaf at different temperatures on each thermostat. This is because each thermostat has its own temperature schedule, and the temperature changes that you make are different for each thermostat.
During the first few days after you install your thermostat, the Leaf will appear based on pre-set temperatures. After that, Nest will personalize the Leaf to your home and temperature schedule:
- The Leaf always appear when your thermostat is set to the following temperatures:
- When heating, the Leaf will appear when the temperature is set to 62°F (16.5°C) or below.
- When cooling, the Leaf will appear when the temperature is set to 84°F (29°C) or above.
- Your thermostat changes the criteria for earning a Leaf based on what it has learned to encourage you to save more over time. For example, if you set your thermostat to heat your home to 69°F (20.5°C) you might see a Leaf the first few times. Eventually, you may need to set the temperature to 67°F (19.5°C) to earn a Leaf.
- Temperatures that earn the Leaf continue to change over time as your thermostat learns more about your temperature preferences based on your temperature schedule and manual temperature changes.
- Temperatures that earn the Leaf also change as your thermostat learns how efficient your home’s system is at heating or cooling your home.
- Because each home has a different system and temperature preferences, temperatures that earn the Leaf will differ from home to home.
- If you have a zoned system and more than one thermostat in your home, you may get the Leaf at different temperatures on each thermostat. This is because each thermostat has its own temperature schedule, and the temperature changes that you make are a bit different for each thermostat.
