Using Nest cameras and doorbells indoors and outdoors

You should never use a Nest camera designed solely for indoor use, outside. Doing so may lead to damage and void your warranty.

Nest camera algorithms are continuously updated to improve performance. This may include specific optimisations for indoor or outdoor environments. For instance, your outdoor camera may not perform as well when placed inside.

Make sure that you’re using your Nest camera, power cable and power adaptor in the environment that they’re designed for. For a complete list of all camera specifications, refer to Technical specifications for Nest cameras.

Cameras specifically designed for indoor use

  • Nest Cam IQ Indoor
  • Nest Cam Indoor

These cameras were all designed to be used inside your home. Do not use them outside. Doing so may cause damage and void your warranty.

  • The camera bodies, USB cables and power adaptors for indoor models are not weatherproof and should not be exposed to water or excessive moisture.
  • Indoor camera operating temperature ranges are different. Direct sunlight may heat up an indoor camera beyond its operational temperature rating

Cameras specifically designed for outdoor use

  • Nest Cam IQ Outdoor
  • Nest Cam Outdoor
  • Nest Doorbell battery
  • Nest Doorbell (wired)

These are Nest’s only cameras that are designed for outdoor installation and use. They were not designed with indoor use in mind. If you do use an outdoor camera inside your home, you may run into some issues with installation and performance.
