Troubleshoot Weather isn't displaying (Can’t get the weather at the moment)

​Farsight is a feature that's exclusive to the 3rd gen Google Nest Learning Thermostat. When Farsight is enabled and set to show you the weather, your thermostat may show you a message that says 'Can't get the weather right now. nest.com/m2' or 'Can't display the weather because your thermostat is offline'. It may also show incorrect weather information or the wrong outside temperatures.

If your thermostat disconnects, it'll appear as offline and won't be able to show you local weather information. You'll need to troubleshoot when your Nest thermostat is offline.
'Can't get the weather at the moment. nest.com/m2'

1. Check the Nest service status

If the Nest service is down, it can affect features like Farsight weather that use online services. You can check the status of our service at status.nest.com.

2. Check that your thermostat is online

Your thermostat can only get weather information when it's connected to a Wi-Fi network. If your thermostat shows you a message that says 'Can't get the weather at the moment. nest.com/m2' or 'Can't display the weather because your thermostat is offline', your thermostat might be disconnected from Wi-Fi.

To check if your thermostat is offline, follow these steps:

Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Home  and then Climate  and then your thermostat.
    • If there's a warning icon on the thermostat's tile, your thermostat is offline.

Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app .
  2. Find your thermostat on the Nest app home screen.
    • If your thermostat icon is grey and says 'Offline' underneath it, your thermostat is offline.

On the Nest thermostat:

  1. Press your thermostat’s ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings .
    • If your thermostat is offline, an exclamation mark icon Nest offline icon will appear instead of the normal settings icon.

3. Confirm your home's location

Your Nest thermostat uses Google Weather API data to get local weather information. If your location is incorrect, your thermostat might have trouble giving you the correct weather information.

Make sure that your home location in both the Nest app and on your thermostat have the correct information.

To check if your location is correct, follow these steps:

Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or initial.
  3. Tap Home settings . Check the address under the home name.
  4. Tap Home name and then Home address and then Edit if you need to make any changes.

Nest app

  1. Open the Nest app .
  2. On the home screen, tap Settings .
  3. Select Home info.
  4. Tap Address. You'll find your home's current address and location on a map.
    • If the address is incorrect, tap it to enter a new one, then tap Next or Done.
    • If you aren’t using your phone’s location to automatically switch your thermostat when you leave or come home, the map won’t appear.
  5. On the next screen, confirm that the location of your home on the map is correct.
    • If it isn't, drag the map to fine-tune it, then tap Done.

On your thermostat

  1. Press the ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings and press it to select.
  3. Turn the ring to Location to find your address.

If the address isn’t right:

  1. Press the ring to open location settings.
  2. Select Location on the next screen and press the ring.
  3. Follow the thermostat's instructions to reset your location information.

4. Check your home network settings

Reset your router and check that your home network settings are not blocking your Nest Thermostat from getting weather data.

To restart your modem and router, follow these steps:

  1. Unplug your modem or router’s power cable.
  2. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in again.
  3. Your modem will start up automatically. It can take a few minutes for the modem to finish restarting.
  4. When your modem has finished restarting, check that your thermostat and other devices can connect to the Internet.
    • If not, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further help.

Make sure that your home network has settings that allow Nest devices to connect to the Internet. For a list of the recommended settings for networks, refer to Recommended Wi-Fi network and router settings for use with Nest products.

The weather is wrong

Confirm your home's location

If your home’s location is incorrect, your thermostat might not show the correct weather.

Important: Make sure that the Google Home app, Nest app and your thermostat all have the correct information about your home location.

Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile picture or initial.
  3. Tap Home settings . Check the address under the home name.
  4. Tap Home  and then Climate  and then your thermostat.
