How to change lock

You can set your Google Nest × Yale Lock to automatically lock itself, schedule guest access, turn on or off certain notifications, and more.

To change settings on your lock:

  1. On the Nest app home screen, tap Settings .
  2. Select your lock.

Read below to learn more about available options.

Locking

Auto-Lock

Your Nest × Yale Lock can automatically lock itself. You can choose how long your lock should wait before automatically locking, and you can have Auto-Lock on all the time or only when no one’s home.

With the Nest app

  1. On the app home screen, tap Settings
  2. Select your lock.
  3. Tap Home/Away Assist.
  4. Tap Auto-Lock to turn it on or off.

With the Google Home app

Important: If you have Auto-Lock on, always make sure to remember your passcode and make sure others who have access to your home memorize their passcode, so nobody accidentally gets locked out.

When Auto-Lock is enabled, you can choose to have it automatically lock your door when you’re Home, Away, or both:

  • When you’re home, you can choose whether you want Auto-Lock on or off. Auto-Lock settings will be set to Home when at least one person who has shared access to your home is home and sharing their phone’s location.
  • When you’re away, the only available option is to have Auto-Lock automatically lock your door whenever the Nest × Yale Lock detects that you and your family are away. If you don’t want your lock to Auto-Lock when everyone is away, you will need to disable Auto-Lock altogether.

Important: It can take your app some time to realize that no one’s home. This means it might take some time before the Nest or Google Home app can automatically lock the door. You should always remember to lock your door.

When Auto-Lock is enabled and you leave home, your lock won’t automatically lock right away. There will be a delay before your home switches to Away to make sure no one’s home. For instance, you could just be getting the mail or stepping out briefly. Learn about How Nest products decide when to switch to Home or Away.

You can also set the time you want your lock to Auto-Lock:

  • Tap Auto-Lock door after to set the time to lock the door. You can select 10 seconds, 1 minute, or 5 minutes.

Notifications

In this menu, you can adjust settings for some of the notifications on your lock. You can choose to turn

Set up guest and family access

Each person who uses the lock will have a unique passcode so you can check in the lock’s history who locked or unlocked the door. In order to add a family member or guest to your lock, you’ll send a Family Accounts invite to them.

You can choose if they have Full Access or Home Entry Only, assign a unique passcode, and also schedule access if you only want them to have access at certain times or on certain days.
