Home/Away Assist automatically switches between Away and Home modes, adjusting how your Nest products behave when you leave and come back. But you can also manually put your home into Away mode with the Nest app.
You shouldn’t need to manually switch between Home and Away modes since Home/Away Assist will automatically do it for you. But manually switching to Away mode can switch your home faster than waiting for Nest to notice that you’ve left. Manually switching can also be helpful for troubleshooting if your Nest products didn’t switch as expected. For instance, you can manually set Home mode so you can stay warm while you troubleshoot a thermostat issue.
Note: You can’t use your Google Nest thermostat to set Home or Away mode any longer, but you can manually switch your thermostat to Eco Temperatures.
On a phone, tablet, or computer
- Open the Nest app on your phone, tablet or computer. If you have more than one home, select the home you want to control.
- Tap the Home icon.
- Select Home or Away to change your home’s mode.
Note: If you are at home and manually put your home into Away mode it will stick for about 5 minutes. This is to give you some time to leave if you’re just heading out.
After 5 minutes, if any of your Nest products notice you’re either still at home or that you’ve come back, they’ll automatically switch back to Home mode
