On April 8, 2024, Nest will no longer support Nest Secure. It will not be accessible in the Nest app and will no longer connect to the internet. You will not be able to use the Nest app to check the status of your Nest Secure, control your Nest Secure devices, or receive notifications from your alarm system.

If you reset Google Nest Detect to factory defaults, it will erase all settings and your Detect will appear Offline in the Nest app. We don’t recommend resetting Nest Detect to factory defaults unless you need to. For example, you might be asked to do this if you’re sending Nest Detect to us for a repair.
How to restart Nest Detect
If you restart Detect, it will refresh its connection with Google Nest Guard. This may help fix any connection issues

If a reset doesn’t work, try taking out Detect’s battery
Taking out the battery is another quick way to solve many common issues. It won’t erase any settings, and Detect will automatically try to reconnect to Guard after you’re done.
- Make sure Nest Secure is set to Off . Otherwise, the alarm will sound when you try to take out Detect’s battery.
- Pull Detect out of its backplate.
- Take out Detect’s battery and put it back in.
- Snap Detect back into its backplate.
- Detect will automatically try to connect to Nest Guard again. Check your Detect with the Nest app to make sure it’s working normally. If it’s having trouble, the app will tell you.
- If you disarmed Nest Secure earlier, remember to arm it again.
A reset to factory defaults will disconnect Detect from Nest Guard. It will stay disconnected unless you use the Nest app to install it again. However, a factory reset will not automatically remove Detect from your account, so you will still see it listed in the Nest app.
Only reset your Detect to factory defaults if:
- You previously removed it from your account in the Nest app, but now you want to add it back to the same account.
- You want to completely start over and re-install your Detect from the beginning.

3. Detect will reset itself to factory defaults.
4. If you disarmed Nest Secure earlier, you can now arm it again.
When reset to factory defaults, Detect’s light will pulse blue. It will no longer look for activity in your home, and will be Offline in the Nest app. Or, if you’ve already removed it from your account, it won’t appear there at all.
