How to lock and unlock the Nest × Yale Lock

There are several ways to lock and unlock the Google Nest × Yale Lock. You can use the Nest app, enter a passcode on the lock’s keypad, use the thumb turn when you’re inside your home, use One Touch Locking, or set it to Auto-Lock after a predetermined time.

How to lock and unlock your Nest × Yale Lock

Use the Nest app

  1. On the Nest app home screen, select your lock. If
    you have multiple locks, select the lock for the
    door that you want to lock. The app will show
    whether the lock is currently locked or unlocked.

  2. Tap and hold the open lock Yale lock on icon until the blue
    ring disappears.

  3. You’ll see a blue spinning ring and Locking. It will
    be locked once you see the
    lock Yale lock off icon and “Last locked by you.”

To unlock, repeat the steps above. If it is unable to lock or unlock, you will see a yellow ring

Troubleshooting locking or unlocking problems with the Nest × Yale Lock

Use the Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Home

  2. Under your lock’s image Lock icon, tap Lock or Unlock.

The app will show whether the lock is currently locked or unlocked. To see details like the lock's name, location, and when it was last locked, tap on the lock Lock icon.

Use the lock's keypad

  1. Press Yale Yale on nest lock icon or touch your palm to
    the keypad to wake it up.
  2. Enter your 4 to 8 digit passcode and press the
    check Check to unlock.

To lock, repeat the steps above unless you have enabled One Touch Locking.

Use One Touch Locking

When you first set up your lock, One Touch Locking is enabled by default.

  • Press Yale Yale on nest lock icon or touch your palm to the keypad to lock your home when you leave.

If this doesn’t work, you can check your settings in the app:

  1. On the app home screen, tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  2. Select your lock.
  3. Tap One touch locking, tap to turn it on.

Tell Google Assistant

Use the lock's thumb turn

If you’re inside the home, you can turn the thumb turn
to lock and unlock your door like a traditional deadbolt
lock.

How to unlock when Privacy Mode is on

  1. If you hear “Please try again at another time” when you try to enter your passcode, Privacy Mode is on.

  2. You can only turn it off with the Nest app. So if you don’t use the Nest app to enter the home, you’ll need to contact someone who shares access to the home to turn off Privacy Mode.

  3. Once Privacy Mode is turned off, you can use the Nest app or the lock’s keypad to unlock the door.

How to enable or disable Auto-Lock

By default, the Nest × Yale Lock will not automatically lock itself, but you can use the Nest app to set your lock to automatically lock itself. You can choose how long your lock should wait before automatically locking, and you can have Auto-Lock on all the time or only when no one’s home.

Note: If you can’t hear a tone when you press the numbers on the lock’s keypad or hear a chime when the door locks and unlocks, check your volume settings.

On the app home screen, tap Settings Nest settings icon and thenselect your lock and thenand thentap Volume and then select Low or High.
