If Google Nest Wifi or Google Wifi detects another device on your network acting as a DHCP server (rogue DHCP server), a note will appear on a card in the Google Home app that says, “Something’s not quite right.”
A rogue DHCP server on your network can cause issues with your devices connecting to the internet. This is because some devices on your network may receive different configurations (IP addresses, subnet masks, gateway, etc.) that prevent them from talking to other devices on your network.
Generally, this happens when:
- Google Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi points are plugged into the LAN port of an existing router.
- Another router is plugged into the LAN port of a Google Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi point.
What to do when a rogue server is detected
Try one of these steps to resolve the issue:
- Remove the other router (recommended).
- Disable the DHCP server on the other router. This allows you to continue using LAN ports on the other router.
