Photo Frame on your Google Nest display

When your Google Nest Hub or Google Nest Hub Max display isn't in use, it can quietly keep you entertained. You can add your favorite photos to Google Photos and display them in your Google Nest Photo Frame.

Alternatively, you can choose an existing art gallery or select from a variety of traditional and abstract clocks to show while your device is idle. You can also get notifications on your display about upcoming events, commute, reminders, flights and packages.

Set up Photo Frame on your Google Nest display

Use the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices ..
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Photo Frame and then adjust the settings you want.

Use your Nest display screen

  1. From the bottom of your Nest display screen, swipe up.
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Tap Photo Frame and then adjust the settings you want.

If you have Voice Match enabled, you can also say "Hey Google, change Photo Frame" to open Photo Frame settings on your Nest display.

Change photos on your Nest display

If you have a Google Photos account, you can enjoy your personal photos on your Nest display.

Get started with a Google Photos account

Set up Live Albums

Live Albums automatically add photos from your Google Photos library so you don't have to manually update the photos on your Nest display.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices ..
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Photo Frame.
  5. Tap Google Photos and then Select family & friends.
  6. Tap the faces you want to include and then Confirm or Done.

You can also create your own auto-updating live albums. Learn how to create and edit photo albums.

Note: Make sure you enable Face Groups in Google Photos.

Important: Face Groups in Google Photos is not available in all geographic regions.

Add or remove Google Photos albums

You can add or remove albums with the Home app or your Nest display.

Home app:

  1. Open the Home app .
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices ..
  3. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings and then Photo Frame and then Google Photos.
  5. Select albums to add and deselect albums to remove.

Nest display:

  1. Say "Hey Google, change Photo Frame."
  2. Tap Google Photos.
  3. Select albums to add and deselect albums to remove.

Available albums include auto-selected albums like "Recent highlights," your private Google Photos albums, and your shared albums that have a name.

Interact with photos on your Nest display

When a photo is on your Nest display screen, you can do the following:

  • To go to the next photo, swipe left or say "Hey Google, next photo."
  • To go to the previous photo, swipe right or say "Hey Google, previous photo."
  • To learn more about the photo, ask "Hey Google, when was this taken?" or "Hey Google, where was this taken?"
  • To remove the photo, say "Hey Google, remove this photo," and follow the prompts. The photo should now be archived in Google Photos.
  • To share the photo with one of your Google contacts, say "Hey Google, share this photo with [contact name]" and follow the prompts. You can also share groups of photos.
  • To mark a photo as favorite, say "Hey Google, favorite this photo," or touch and hold the photo on the screen and then tap Favorites . This photo should now appear in your Favorites album.

Voice interaction with photos is available in most Google Assistant languages that work on your Nest display.

Share groups of photos with your Google contacts

  1. From your Nest display, say:
    • "Hey Google, share my photos."
    • "Hey Google, share photos of [person] with [contact name]." You can also ask to share photos of a specific place, object or date.
  2. Your display should show photos with the details that you specified.
  3. Select the photos you want and then tap Share.
  4. The photos are shared via Google Photos, and the recipient should receive an email or text message to notify them that they have received new photos.

Show your Memories

Your Nest display can show your Memories, which are collections of some of your best photos in Google Photos.

To show Memories, say "Hey Google, show my photo memories." Your display should play a slideshow of your available Memories.

The first time you use Memories on your display, you need to opt in:

  1. Say "Hey Google, show my photo memories."
    • If you find a card with "Show my photo memories" on your Nest display screen, you can also tap the card to start the opt-in steps.
  2. The Nest display screen should prompt you "See your photos proactively here."
  3. Tap Allow and then follow the steps.

You can opt into Memories on your Nest display if the following are true:

  • You're using the first account that was linked to the display.
  • Your Google Photos account has Memories.
  • Your Google Photos account is enabled in the Assistant app.
  • You've enabled Proactive results on your Nest display. To enable Proactive results:
    1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
    2. Tap Favorites or Devices . and then tap your Nest display.
    3. Tap Settings and then Recognition & sharing and then Recognition & personalization.
    4. Turn on Allow personal results and then tap Always show proactively.

Hide Photos

If you don't want a photo to appear on your Nest display, move it to archive in Google Photos.

To hide photos with a specific person's face, remove their face group in Google Photos.

Note: Archived photos and photos with hidden faces remain in any albums they were already added to. You might need to disable the albums or manually delete the photos from them.

More settings

Banner notifications

Banner notifications proactively tell you about your upcoming events and tasks. This feature is only available in the US.

  • To receive banner notifications on your display, turn on the following settings:
  • To dismiss a notification when it's on your display, swipe up the banner.
  • To turn off banner notifications, open Photo Frame settings for your display, then set "Banner notifications" to Hide.

If you have more than one Google Account linked to your Nest display, you need to turn off banner notifications for each account.

Weather

To show the weather in Photo Frame, select Show. You'll get the local weather for the address of your home in the Google Home app.

  • To check the address entered for your home, open the Google Home app and then tap Settings and then check under the name of your home.
  • To change the address, tap your home name and then Home address and then Edit.

Air quality

To show the air quality index (AQI) when it's available in your area, select Show.

Time

To let your Nest display show the time in Photo Frame, select Show.

Personal photo data

By default, your photos display information like album name, photo date, photo location and more. To hide this information, set "Personal photo data" to Hide.

Note: Personal photo data is only available in the US.

Portrait Google Photos

To let portrait photos appear in your Google Photos slideshow, select Show or Show pairs.

  • Show: One portrait photo appears on your Nest display screen.
  • Show pairs: A pair of related photos appear side-by-side. Google Photos uses a number of signals to relate photos, including if they have the same person in them (in geographic regions where Face Groups are available), or if they were taken close together in time or location.

Personal photo curation

Depending on the album, Google Photos may curate the photos that it selects for your slideshow:

  • Live Albums only: Google Photos tries to select the best photos from these albums.
  • All albums: Google Photos tries to remove photos with poor image quality or near duplicates.
    • To turn off curation for these albums, set "Personal photo curation" to Live albums only.
  • Your Favorites: Google Photos doesn't curate these photos.

Slideshow speed

Art and photo slideshows use bandwidth to download images to your Nest display. To help save bandwidth, choose a slower slideshow speed.

Google Weather Frog

To show the Weather Frog in addition to your photos, select Show.

Recommendations & Extras

To get recommended content, select Show.
