Change your nickname

By default, your nickname is the first name associated with your Google Account. However, you can set a different nickname and teach Google Assistant the correct pronunciation.

Change your nickname

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap your account.
  4. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google device. If correct, tap to close the account window. To switch accounts, tap the dropdown icon , then tap another account or Add another account.

  5. Tap Assistant settings and then Basic info and then Nickname and then Edit  and then Ok.
  6. To check the pronunciation, choose one of three options:
    1. Use default: Tap Use default. To hear the pronunciation, tap Play. If it’s incorrect, try to spell it out or record your own.
    2. Spell it out: Tap Spell it out  type your name  tap Play.
      Tip: Use the alphabet to spell out the pronunciation. For example, Eva can be spelled as Ayva.
    3. Record your own: Tap Record your own  tap Record  say your name. To hear the pronunciation, tap Play. To record again, tap Record again.
