Shop on Google Home

Order everyday essentials and buy items on your shopping list with your Google Assistant on Google Home.
 
Note: This functionality is only available in the U.S. 
 

Step 1. Set up personalization

One person using Google Home

Personal results must be turned on to add or manage your shopping lists and buy items.  

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner of the Home screen, tap Account .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.
  4. Tap SettingsSettings icon.
  5. Tap Assistant tab.
  6. Under "Devices." tap the Google Home you want to adjust.
  7. Under "Personal results", slide the slider on On.
Multiple people using Google Home

If multiple users are using the same Google Home, everyone who wants to shop on Google Home must link their Google Account and voice to Google Home, even the person who set up Google Home. If you've already linked your Google Account and voice, skip these steps. 

 

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Home or Google Nest device. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
  4. Go back to the home screen, then tap Settings .
  5. Scroll down to "Google Assistant services," then tap More settings.
  6. Tap Assistant  Voice Match  Add devices.
  7. Make sure any devices you want to link your voice to are checked.
  8. Tap Continue  Next I agree.
  9. Follow the in-app steps.
  10. To hear personal information, you must turn on Personal results. Tap I agree and proceed with the Voice Match setup.
  11. To invite others to set up Voice Match for tailored results, tap Invite, choose your communication method, and send the invite. To skip this step, tap No thanks.

Step 2. Set up payments

To start shopping, you must set up payments. 

Set up payments
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Scroll down to "Google Assistant services," then tap More Settings.
  4. Tap Payments and then Next.
  5. Read the Terms of Service. Scroll down and tap Accept. 
  6. Choose your default payment method:
    1. If you have already added a payment method for another Google service, for example Google Play, you can choose that payment method. Tap Next.
    2. If you need to add a payment method, tap Add credit or debit card.
      1. Enter the card information, billing name, billing street address, and phone number. Review the card details and tap Save.  ​
      2. This new payment method is now selected as your default payment method. Tap Next. 
  7. Add your delivery address:
    1. If you've already added a delivery address for another Google service, you can choose that delivery address. Tap Next.
    2. If you need to add an address, tap Add new address. 
      1. Enter your name, delivery address, and phone number. Tap Save.  ​
  8. Select which device(s) can make payments. Note: This screen only appears if you have successfully set up your device(s):
    1. You'll see a list of all devices that are successfully set up.
    2. Next to each device, you'll see a toggle that controls the Personal results for that particular device. Remember, Personal results controls whether a specific device can use your personal information, including payments and other things like email, calendar, and flights. 
    3. To allow your device to use your personal information, turn on Personal results. Tap Done. 
    4. To prevent your device from using your personal information, turn off Personal results. Tap Done.
    5. Important:  If you turn off Personal results because you don't want your Assistant to help with payments, it won’t be able to help with other personal information like flights, shopping lists, calendars, etc. However, if you turn OFF payments and keep Personal results ON, your Assistant can still help other personal information, like calendar and flight info.

Add a single item to your cart 

You can add a single item to your cart, one at a time. 

Using your voice
To do this: Say "Ok Google" or Hey Google," then...

Add an item

Tip: You can only add a single item at a time. If they wish to update the quantity of an item in their cart (for example, they want two bottles of shampoo), they can only do so on the Google Shopping site or app.

"Add <product> to my cart," "Add <product> to my shopping cart"

Add an item from a specific store

"Add <product> from <store> to my cart"

Currently you can't ask what's in your cart, remove items from a cart, or change the quantity of items in your cart. 

Using the Google Home app
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner of the Home screen, tap Account .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the account name and email address.
  4. Tap Settings
  5. Tap Services tab and then Assistant voice.
  6. Under "Services," tap
     .
  7. Tap a list that includes the item you want to buy. 
  8. Tap the Google Shopping logo  next to the item to open the Google Shopping app. 
    1. Note: The Google Shopping app doesn't need to be downloaded to your phone to buy items. Google Shopping automatically opens after tapping the Google Shopping logo. 
  9. You’ll see search results for this item. Swipe right to see different brands, sizes and other options for each item.
  10. Once you choose an item, tap the item and then ADD TO CART.

Buy a single item by voice

You can only buy or re-order a single item per order, even if it is the same item. For example, you can't say "Hey Google, buy two packages of paper towels" (same item) or "Hey Google, buy paper towels and garbage bags" (different items). You'll need to completely purchase one single-time order and then start a new order for additional items. Each single item order has its own tracking number. Multiple item purchases are coming soon.

Tip: If you don't specify a store, store results are based on your Google Shopping order history. If you haven't ordered this item before, you'll hear results from stores that carry the item

"Buy <product> from <store>,' "Purchase <product> from <store>,' "Order <product> from <store>"

Reorder a single item

Tip: These items are based on your Google Shopping  order history

Note: Merchants on Google Shopping  offer free shipping when orders exceed a minimum basket amount. If you try to place an order and hear that the order includes shipping fees, you can add the item to your cart instead in order to build a minimum basket.

Buy items directly from lists

To buy individual items from your shopping list:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Settings. 
  4. Under "Services," tap Shopping list  .
  5. Tap a list that includes the item you want to buy. 
  6. Tap the Google Shopping logo  next to the item to open the Google Shopping app. 
    1. Note: The Google Shopping app doesn't need to be downloaded to your phone to buy items. Google Shopping automatically opens after tapping the Google Shopping logo. 
  7. You’ll see search results for this item. Swipe right to see different brands, sizes and other options for each item.
  8. Once you choose an item, tap the item and then ADD TO CART.
  9. When you’re done shopping, tap the shopping cart  to check out. Then complete the check out steps. 

To buy your entire list:

  1. Tap the list you're purchasing items from and then SHOP YOUR LIST. This will take you to the Google Shopping app.
    1. Note: The Google Shopping app doesn't need to be downloaded to your phone to buy items. Google Shopping automatically opens after tapping the Google Shopping logo. 
  2. You’ll see search results for each of the items on your list on Google Shopping. Swipe right to see different brands, sizes and other options for each item.
  3. Once you find what you want to buy, tap the item and then ADD TO CART.
  4. When you’re done shopping, tap the shopping cart  to check out.  Then complete the check out steps. 
Mark items as purchased
To know which items have been purchased and to prevent others from purchasing the same item, you can check off the item. All people on the shared list will see this item checked off. 
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. At the top right, tap your account.
  3. Tap Settings. 
  4. Under "Services," tap Shopping list  .
  5. Tap the list you're purchasing items from and then tap the check box next to the item.
  6. It will be added to the "Checked items" section at the bottom of the screen. 
  7. To move an item back to the main list, uncheck the box next to the item. 

You can also touch the item and swipe right. 

Manage orders 

Cancel order or add substitute options
You can cancel any order until it’s been paid for in-store. You’ll also have 15 minutes after placing your order to pick substitutes in case your item is out of stock. Note: You can’t cancel an order by voice. 

From email

  1. Open the order confirmation email.
  2. Click SEE MORE to get to your Orders page, where you can cancel your order until it’s been paid for in-store, or add substitutes.

From Google Shopping site

  1. Open Google Shopping .
  2. In the top right corner of the browser, click Google Account and then Orders and then Cancel Order. 

From Google Shopping app

  1. Open your Google Shopping app.
  2. Tap on the House icon with the “New” status shown underneath. You can cancel an order until it’s shown as “In progress.”
  3. In the Order details screen, tap Cancel order.
Change items in order

Once you’ve submitted your order, it isn’t possible to edit the items in your delivery. However, you can always place a second order for any additional items you need, or cancel the order and place a new one.

Track your order

To check on the status of your Google Shopping order, go to your Orders page, under Google Account. Your order status will move from “Packed,” to “In Transit,” to “Completed.”  Here's more on tracking your order.

Unavailable items
Some items aren't available to buy using Google Home. These include:
  • All restricted products and services for Google Shopping
  • Fresh produce
  • Perishables, including dairy products
  • Most clothing and accessory items
  • Furniture
  • Anything less than $3.99 and more than $100, pre-tax. Note: Each single item must be $3.99 or more. For example, you can't buy 4 packs of $.99 gum to reach the $3.99 limit.
