Hear a sound after saying “OK Google”

When your Google Nest or Google Home speaker or display hears the hotword ("OK Google" or "Hey Google"), it records what you say and sends the recording to Google to fulfill your request.

To get a brief sound at the start and/or end of your request:  

Speakers

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest or Home speaker.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap your device and then Settings .
  4. Scroll down to "Device settings," then tap Accessibility.
  5. If you want your device to play a sound only after you say “Hey Google,” turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and leave the Play end sound slider off Off.
  6. If you want your device to play a sound after you say "Hey Google" and after Assistant stops listening, turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and Play end sound On.

Displays

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Google Nest display.
  2. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  3. Tap your device and then Settings  and then Audio and then Audio Accessibility.
  4. If you want your device to play a sound only after you say “Hey Google,” turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and leave the Play end sound slider off Off.
  5. If you want your device to play a sound after you say "Hey Google" and after Assistant stops listening, turn on the toggle On next to Play start sound and Play end sound On.
