Voice Match and media on shared Google Nest or Home devices

A Google Nest or Home speaker or display is often shared among household members. When each person in your household uses Voice Match, all of you will enjoy a more customized media experience.

When you set up Voice Match on a shared speaker or display, you can do things like:

Choose your own default music services.
Get a personalized music experience based on your listening history, liked songs, and other details of your past interaction with the music service.
Control your own private library for the music service, which allows you to access your saved songs and playlists.
Can ask to play recommended YouTube videos or some TV shows or movies from a linked streaming service, which allows you to continue playback from your last saved spot.

Set up Voice Match

Voice Match must be associated with a Google Account. Only one Voice Match profile can be associated with a Google Account. If you have multiple Google Accounts, please only choose one account to set up a Voice Match profile.

When you set up Voice Match in your home, you turn it on for all devices in your home and can choose to turn it on automatically for any new devices. You can turn off Voice Match for a specific device at any time.

With the Google Home app

Open the Google Home app .
Tap Settings Google Assistant Voice Match.
The app will show you all devices that support Voice Match. Tap a device to enable or disable Voice Match.
- If you don’t have any devices with Voice Match enabled, tap Get started and follow the in-app steps.
- To turn on Voice Match automatically for new devices in the same home, turn on Devices you add later.

With your Google display

Set up Voice Match directly on your Google display. You’ll need your phone and access to your display’s screen.

Say “Hey Google, learn my voice” to your display.
On your display, tap Let’s go.
Select your account on the display. A push notification will be sent to your phone asking you to confirm whether it’s you trying to sign in on a new device.

Note: If you don't receive a notification:

Android: Go to Settings Apps & notifications [All apps] Google Play services, and check that notifications are enabled. Then, you’ll need to start setup on your display again.

iOS: You may have notifications disabled. Open your YouTube, Google, Gmail, or Google Smart Lock app to check if the confirmation prompt has appeared. You’ll signed in to one of these apps on your phone for this to work.

Tap Yes, it’s me to confirm.
Follow the steps on your display to complete Voice Match setup.

Display is not linked to your Google Account

Voice Match setup is different if your display is not linked to the Google Account you want to use. In this case, you’ll be prompted to link your display to your Google Account during setup.

Say “Hey Google, learn my voice” to your display.
On your display, tap Let’s go Don’t see account.
Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code on your display. This will redirect you to your phone’s web browser.

Note: If you can’t scan the QR code, go to the link below it to continue.

If you have more than one Google Account, make sure you’re signed into the right one in the app before continuing. Tap the profile icon in the top right corner to switch accounts or add another account.
Enter the passcode shown on your display.
Tap Enter Next to link your display and account.
The app will tell you to return to the display. Follow the steps on your display to complete Voice Match setup.

Voice Match setup on displays for someone under the age of 13

A member of your home who is under the age of 13 can also use your display to set up Voice Match with their parent’s help.

For your child to begin Voice Match setup, they should say “Hey Google, learn my voice” to your display. From there, they can select their Google Account on your display (or link their account to your display if they haven’t already) and continue setup.

Your child will need to ask for your permission to enroll in Voice Match. Voice Match setup will ask you to sign in to your Google Account to give parental permission for your display to recognize your child’s voice.

Your child will then teach the Assistant how to recognize their voice. After, your child will need your help once more to opt-in or opt-out of saving audio recordings.

Share services with other Voice Match users and guests

Once you've set up Voice Match on a shared speaker or display, your linked music and video services may be accessible to someone else who speaks to your speaker or display using relevant voice commands.

To prevent others from using your music and video services, ask them to:

Set up Voice Match
Set their own default music service and request their music
Link their video services

Voice commands for Voice Match and media

Your speaker or display may play different music and video content if the requester uses Voice Match or is a guest. Below is an overview:

	First person who set up Voice Match How to identify this person	Additional Voice Match users	Guests and people without Voice Match
Music voice commands will:	Play music from your default music service. If you haven't linked your default service, your Assistant will use other linked users' music services.	Play music from your default music service. If you haven't linked your default service, your Assistant will use other linked users' music services.	Play music from the default music service of the first person who set up Voice Match. If the service you requested hasn't been linked, your Assistant will use other linked users' music services.
TV shows and movies voice commands will:	Play content from your linked streaming service. If you haven't linked your streaming service, your Assistant will use other linked users' service accounts.	Play content from your linked streaming service. If you haven't linked your streaming service, your Assistant will use other linked users' service accounts.	Play content from the linked streaming service of the first person who set up Voice Match. If the streaming service you requested hasn't been linked, your Assistant will use other linked users' streaming services.
YouTube videos voice commands will:	Play content from your YouTube account.	Play content from your YouTube account.	Play content from the YouTube account of the first person who set up Voice Match.
TV and speaker voice commands will:	Control TVs, speakers, and multi-room groups for all users who set up Voice Match.	Control TVs, speakers, and multi-room groups for all users who set up Voice Match.	Control TVs, speakers, and multi-room groups for all users who have linked their Google Account.
Audiobook voice commands will:	Play audiobooks you've purchased.	Play audiobooks you've purchased.	Play audiobooks purchased by th first person who set up Voice Match.

Who is the first person who set up Voice Match?

The user who set up the speaker or display and linked their voice is also the first person who set up Voice Match.
