Can't connect to speaker or display's hotspot in the Google Home app

If you can find a Google Nest or Home speaker or display card within the Google Home app, but can't connect to it when you try to start the setup process, try the steps below:

Initial checklist

First, make sure:

• Your speaker or display is powered on and plugged into a wall outlet.
• You're using a supported iOS or Android device.
• Your Google Home app is up-to-date.
• Your speaker or display is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the mobile device or tablet you're using to set it up.

General troubleshooting

If you've checked off all of the steps above and you still can't connect to the speaker or display's hotspot, try one of the steps below and then try to connect. If you still can't connect, move to the next step. 

Step 1. Reboot speaker or display

1. Disconnect the power cable from your speaker or display.
2. Reconnect power cable back into your speaker or display.

Step 2. Force close and reopen the Google Home app 

Step 3. Try to manually connect to the device's hotspot from your phone or tablet’s Wi-Fi settings 

1. Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device.
2. Open the list of available WiFi networks and look for an available network with the name “GoogleHomeXXXX" (where XXXX is a random number).
   1. Note: If you previously set up your device and have not factory reset it since it got kicked off of the network, look for the name of the device that you assigned to it in the list of available networks on your mobile device (Example: “Kitchen Home"). 
3. If you can successfully connect to the speaker or display's SSID in your WiFi settings, open the Google Home app and try to set up the device.

Advanced troubleshooting​

If you're still unable to connect, try the following:

1. Try to set up your speaker or display using another supported iOS or Android device.
