Can't control Philips Hue lights

If you're unable to control your Philips Hue light bulbs via voice commands through Google Nest or Home speaker or display, try the following.

Note: The circular Philips Hue Bridge (V1) is no longer supported. Please visit the Philips Hue support website for more information.

Initial checklist 

  1. Is your speaker or display powered on?
  2. Is your speaker or display successfully set up on your Wi-Fi network?
  3. Do you own Philips Hue light bulbs that are successfully set up on the same WiFi network?
  4. Are you able to control your Philips Hue lights using the Philips Hue mobile app?
  5. Have you successfully linked your Philips Hue account to your speaker or display via the Assistant Settings? If not, link your account by following these steps.
  6. What are you trying to control with your Philips Hue lights? (turn them on/off, turn the brightness up, etc) Check the supported voice commands listed below.
    1. Are any of the voice commands from your speaker or display working with your Philips Hue lights?


Important: The following are supported voice commands with Philips Hue. Make sure you're attempting to control your Philips Hue lights with one of the supported commands:

To do this:  Say "Hey Google," then:
To turn on/off a light "Turn on/off <light name>"
Dim a light "Dim the <light name>"
Brighten a light "Brighten the <light name>"
Set a light brightness to a certain percentage "Set <light name> to 50%"
Dim/Brighten lights by a certain percentage Dim/Brighten <light name> by 50%"
Change the color of a light "Turn <light name> green"
Turn on/off all lights in room “Turn on/off lights in <room name>" 
Turn on/off all lights “Turn on/off all of the lights”
Activate a scene "Activate/set <scene name>"
Deactivate a scene "Deactivate <scene name>"

General troubleshooting

  1. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network that your speaker or display is connected to. 
  2. Make sure your speaker or display and Philips Hue bridge are on the same Wi-Fi network. 
  3. Make sure you're using a mobile device that has the same Google Account that is currently linked to your speaker or display.
  4. Make sure you're using the same Google Account as the primary account from within the Google Home app.
    1. Open the Google Home appGoogle Home app.
    2. At the top right, tap your account.
    3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google device. If correct, tap to close the account window. To switch accounts, tap the dropdown icon , then tap another account or Add another account.

       
  5. Verify Philips Hue light bulbs are linked in the Google Home app.
    1. If your lights don't appear, force close the Google Home app and try again. If your Philips Hue light bulbs are still not listed under “Devices” then follow these steps to relink your account.
  6. Go to the Philips Hue mobile app and confirm you're able to control your lights via the Philips Hue mobile application.
  7. Try the following voice command word-for-word:
    1. Voice command: “Hey Google, turn on the lights.”
