You can control over 50,000 smart home devices like TVs, lights, appliances, plugs, thermostats, sensors, and more when you add them to the Google Home app. To start, set up your device in the Google Home app, then check that they've been synced.

Control devices with the Google Home app
After you set up your device in the Google Home app, you can control it from your phone or tablet.
- Open the Google Home app

- Tap Home

, then find your device's tile.
- Some tiles allow you to:
- Tap the tile to take a quick action with the device. For example, turn lights on and off or lock and unlock a door.
- Drag a slider on the tile to gradually adjust. For example, you can dim your lights or change the volume on your speaker or display.

- Touch and hold your device’s tile until the controls open.

Control and schedule multiple devices with Routines
Create or customize a Routine to control multiple devices at once. Routines can start:
- According to a schedule
- With a voice command
- With the Google Home app
- When everyone's away or someone's home

Fix a problem
Check these things first
- Is your device plugged into a wall outlet and powered on?
- Are your devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network?
- Are your devices in the same home in the Google Home app?
- Are your devices updated with their manufacturer's latest firmware?
- Are you in the same room as your devices?
Important: You need to set up some devices in the manufacturer's app and the Google Home app. Use the correct setup instructions for your device.
If you add, update, or change a device in the partner app and can't find the device in the Google Home app, try to sync the smart home control device and your speaker or display.
Sync your devices in the Google Home app
- Open the Google Home app

- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.

Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google device.

To switch accounts, tap the drop-down

Sync your devices with your voice assistant

To fix the issue, rename your device.
- Make sure your mobile device or tablet and the device you want to rename are linked to the same account.
- Open the Google Home app

, then touch and hold your device's tile.
- Tap Settings

- Google smart home devices only: Tap Device information.
- Tap Name, then, enter a new name.
- Tap Save.
Tips:
- Do not include numbers, special characters, or room names.
- Avoid names that sound similar, such as "Table light left" and "Table light right."
To fix the issue:
Reconnect your smart home device’s power cable
- Unplug your device and wait for one to two minutes.
- Plug your device back in, then turn the power back on.
Reboot your Wi-Fi router
Check with your device manufacturer for specific instructions on how to reboot your Wi-Fi router.

Unlink and relink your devices

Tip: Tap Relink on the error screen to automatically relink your Google Home app to your Integration account.
