Control volume of speakers and displays

There are several ways to control the volume of Google Assistant, your media, timers, and alarms on Google Nest or Home devices.

 

Control volume by voice

Control volume with these voice commands.

Note: Voice commands to control volume don’t work for alarms and timers.

To do this:	Say "Ok Google" or “Hey Google,” then:	What your device does:
Increase volume	"Turn it up"	Google Home, Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Hub Max, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), and Google Nest Audio: Increase volume by a 10% increment. Google Home Max: Increases volume by a 5% increment.
Decrease volume	"Turn it down"	Google Home, Google Nest Hub, Google Nest Hub Max, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), and Google Nest Audio: Decrease volume by a 10% decrement. Google Home Max: Decreases volume by a 5% decrement.
Set specific volume level	"Volume level 5" "Volume to 65%"	Sets volume at a specific level. Scale is 1-10 or 1-100%.
Maximize volume	"Max volume"	Sets volume at level 10.
Minimum volume	"Minimum volume"	Sets volume at level 1.
Change volume by X amount	"Increase volume by 10%" "Decrease volume by 10%"	Changes volume by amount specified.
Get current volume level	"What’s the volume?"	Says the current volume level.

Control volume by touch

Google Home

To do this:	Touch Google Home like this:	Image
Turn up the volume	On the top of the device, swipe clockwise.
Turn down the volume	On the top of the device, swipe counterclockwise.

 Google Nest Mini (2nd gen)

Note: The Google Nest Mini (2nd gen) has a wall mount screw slot on the back. If your device doesn’t have a wall mount screw slot, it is a Google Home Mini (1st gen).

Turn up the volume	Tap on the right side of Nest Mini. 10 total taps is the maximum volume. Note: When you tap on the device to control the volume, it only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media are muted but your Google Assistant still speaks at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers.
Turn down the volume	Tap on the left side of Nest Mini.  10 total taps mutes the audio. Note: When you tap on the device to control the volume, it only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media are muted but your Google Assistant still speaks at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers.

 Google Home Mini (1st gen)

Turn up the volume	Tap on the right side of Home Mini. 10 total taps is the maximum volume. Note: When you tap on the device to control the volume, it only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media are muted but your Google Assistant still speaks at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers.
Turn down the volume	Tap on the left side of Home Mini.  10 total taps mutes the audio. Note: When you tap on the device to control the volume, it only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. Google Home Max

Turn up the volume	Horizontal placement: Swipe from left to right along the line located on the top of Max. Vertical placement: Swipe up along the line located on the right side of Max.
Turn down the volume	Horizontal placement: Swipe from right to left along the line located on the top of Max. Vertical placement: Swipe down along the line located on the right side of Max.

 Google Nest Audio

Turn up the volume	Tap on the right side of Nest Audio. 20 total taps is the maximum volume. Note: When you tap on the device to control the volume, it only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media are muted but your Google Assistant still speaks at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers.
Turn down the volume	Tap on the left side of Nest Audio. 20 total taps mutes the audio. Note: When you tap on the device to control the volume, it only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant.  Google Nest Hub

Turn up the volume	On the back of Google Nest Hub, press the upper volume button. 20 total button presses is the maximum volume.
Turn down the volume	On the back of Google Nest Hub, press the lower volume button. 20 total button presses mutes the audio.

Google Nest Hub Max

Turn up the volume	Press the upper volume button on the back of Nest Hub Max.
Turn down the volume	Press the lower volume button on the back of Nest Hub Max.

 Google Nest Wifi point

Turn up the volume	Tap on the right side of the Nest Wifi point. 10 total taps will be maximum volume. Note: This only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media will be muted but your Google Assistant will still speak at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers.
Turn down the volume	Tap on the left side of the Nest Wifi point.  10 total taps will mute all audio except your Google Assistant. Note: This only adjusts the volume of media and your Google Assistant. At volume level 0, all media will be muted but your Google Assistant will still speak at a minimum level. It doesn’t adjust the volume of alarms and timers.

 Control Volume from the Google Home app

Media

1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
2. Open the Google Home app .
3. Tap the current media session for:
   • Playback controls
   • Volume control
   • Playback device control.

Alarms and timers

1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
2. Open the Google Home app .
3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
4. At the top right, tap Settings Audio Alarms & Timers.
5. Adjust the volume.

Control volume from the Nest display screen

To control the volume of your media, alarms and timers from your Nest display, follow these steps:

1. From the top of the screen, swipe down to open the quick settings menu.
2. To adjust the volume, tap one of the gray dots. Tap left to turn down the volume or tap right to turn it up.
