Set up your Google Nest or Home speaker or display

The Google Home app  guides you through the steps to set up your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.

What you need to get started

• A Google Nest or Home speaker or display.
• Latest version of the Google Home app .
• Latest version of the Google Assistant app.
• An iPhone or iPad that:
  • Has iOS or iPadOS 16.0 or later.
  • Works with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (a WPA-2 Enterprise network won't work).
  • Has Bluetooth turned on.
  • Has Location Access turned on for Google Home.
  • Has Local Network turned on for Google Home.​​
• An internet connection and secure wireless network.
  • You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password during setup.

Important: Make sure your mobile device is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to connect your Nest speaker or display to.

Get started

Tip: Keep your mobile device close to your Nest speaker or display during the setup process.

1. Plug in your Nest speaker or display.
   • If the device has been used before, factory reset your speaker or display before you continue.
2. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Home app .
3. Tap Devices   Add Google Nest or partner device .
   • If you haven't set up a home or want to create a new home, tap Create home  or  Add another home  Enter a nickname for your home  Enter an address (optional) tap Next.
   • Tap the name of your home Next.

Finish setting up your Nest or Home speaker or display

After you connect your Nest speaker or display to Wi-Fi, follow the in-app steps to customize your device. You can opt out of some settings, like camera sensing, Sleep Sensing, Voice Match, Face Match, and personal results.

You can also set up your Photo Frame, connect media services, and set up calling. If you opt out of any of these settings or features, you can set them up later.
