Set and manage timers and sleep timers on your Google Nest speaker or display

Use your voice to set and manage timers on your Google Nest or Home speaker or display. Set a general timer to alert you when a specified time has passed, or set a sleep timer to stop playing media at the desired time.

Note: To schedule your lights and other smart devices to turn off at a specific time, create a Routine.

Set a general timer

The timer alert sound will play only on the speaker or display that you used to set it up.

You can set, manage, and delete general timers on any Nest speaker set up in the same home and Wi-Fi network in the Google Home app. 

Tip: On Nest displays, some timers might display an animation and sound that matches the timer name. Try naming a timer for food, homework, or naps.

To do this: Say "Hey Google," then:
Set a timer
Set a timer with name
"Set a timer for one minute"
"Set a 10-minute timer for pizza"
Find out time remaining on a timer
Find out time remaining on a timer with a name
"How much time is left?"
"How much time is left on my pizza?"
Cancel a timer
Cancel a timer with name
"Cancel timer"
"Cancel pizza timer"

Stop a ringing timer

"Stop"

To stop a timer, you don't need to say "Hey Google." Just say "Stop." (English language only)

Pause timer "Pause timer"
Resume timer "Resume timer"
"Restart timer"

Stop a ringing timer by touch

  • Google Home: Tap the top.
  • Google Nest Mini: Tap the center.
  • Google Home Mini: Press and hold either side.
  • Google Home Max: Tap the line on the top or right side.
  • Google Nest Audio: Tap the center.
  • Google Nest displays: Tap the circle on the screen.
  • Google Nest Wifi point: Tap the center.

Control timer volume

Sleep timers

You can set a sleep timer to turn off media that's playing on your speaker or display. You can set one sleep timer per device. You can only set, manage, and delete sleep timers on the speaker or display the timer was set up on.

Sleep timers might not work with some forms of media, such as podcasts.

Note: If Digital Wellbeing is enabled, this feature may be restricted or blocked by Downtime, Filters or Do not disturb.

To do this: Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then:
Set a sleep timer "Set a sleep timer for 30 minutes"
"Set a sleep timer at 9:30"
Set sleep timer by duration "Play music, artist, genre or playlist for [duration]"
"Stop music, artist, genre or playlist in [duration]"
"Stop playing in [duration]"
Set sleep timer by time "Play music, artist, genre or playlist until [time]"
"Stop music, artist, genre or playlist at [time]"
"Stop playing at [time]"

Update a sleep timer

Note: When you create a new sleep timer, it should replace the existing sleep timer.

Use any of the above voice commands

Cancel music timer

Note: This command only cancels the music timer. Your music should continue to play.

"Cancel the sleep timer"

Ask about remaining time on timer "How much time is left on the sleep timer?"
